Personlized books are a wonderful keepsake and my own LO loves hers. It's something that will last a long time and you'll get lots of bedtime story use of it.

but there are several companies who make these books in addition to this one, and there are some that are for younger or older kids too.

A wooden name puzzle, special dishes (like a Skip Hop plate/cup/bowl), her own backpack or wheelie suitcase if you ever travel, maybe a personalized towel from Pottery Barn?

@bhbee: I really want to get my older daughter the "Where Are You" look and find book for her next birthday, and I think I will buy the "Lost Her Name" book for my younger daughter's own first bday so they each have one

I love personalized things for a third child. Especially if the older two already have the same personalized item, it's nice for all three to have one of their own. My kids each have personalized blankets, school backpacks, a PB reading chair, and a name puzzle-stool.

@bhbee: Not too unique but this has literally held my son's attention for going on 3 years.......he got it for his first bday!

As far as personalized or more special gifts, maybe one of those wooden name stools or a cuddle and kind with print?

I'm filing all of these ideas away! I struggle with this for any gift for my second daughter, so I bet it's that much harder for a third kid! For my second one's first birthday, we gave her some new bubbles (which we needed anyway), a couple special books, and a box of kleenex that she could pull apart to her heart's content (she thought this was the best. thing. ever.). For her second birthday, she got another book, her "own" tube of toothpaste and a roll of bubble wrap because she loves to stomp on it to pop with her feet. Her grandparents still do plenty of toys and clothes as gifts, even though we reeeally don't need anything. I imagine as she starts to have interests separate from her big sister one day, it'll change. For now, we're sticking with books and simple, consumable stuff. as much as we can.

I'm partial to personalized books too! I like this company: http://www.readyourstory.com. We have the ABC book which my daughter loves because she sees her face in various illustrations throughout the book. They have other books if ABCs are not your thing. Check them out, they are a small biz with great customer service.

Nice shoes? My third will have a ton of beautiful clothes that were given to her big sister first, but shoes get worn out much faster, so the few hand-me-downs she has clearly aren't new.

I don't know what toy I could possibly get her that would be just hers... the older kids get their hands on everything, and their favorite play character right now is, of course, a baby rattle (whyyyy?!)

Other ideas - a blanket/pillow for a big girl bed, or hair clips and a box to keep them, or a rain coat and umbrella.

@agold: Don't feel bad haha! I kinda just got her random stuff so she has stuff to open but it really just ends up being communal toys anyway!

I agree that personalized things make great gift. My sil always gives a llbean junior backpack as a 1st bday gift. My kids have the name stools and ive seen the name puzzles. Even some piece of personalized wall art would be great.
