How did you decide the theme for your lo's first birthday party? Was it something your lo liked or did you just pick?

**edit. jk. My LO LOOOOOVES our laptops and iphones! technology would be an ugly theme though.
I decided on a spring theme for my LO's bday party since she was born at the end of March. My LO doesn't LOVE anything yet. She likes Sophie, likes her musical toys, likes her stuffed Labbit..
It's my LO's first bday, but she doesn't have any friends yet so the party'll be for our family and friends to enjoy.
Bdays #2-18 will be for her and her buddies.

I chose colors I liked, aqua blue and red, based on the hanbok (Korean suit) we borrowed from a friend. The theme of a red balloon in a blue sky kind of grew from that.

I just picked something I thought would be cute and wanted to save character themes and such for when he's old enough to choose himself. The theme for his first birthday will be a carnival.

I didn't really have a theme for his 1st birthday. I got balloons in every color, and for his cake I had a little toy 4-wheeler put on it because he did like those at the time!

My daughter had a butterfly themed first birthday because thats what she showed most intrest in at the time.

We had an owl theme because her nursery is decorated with some owl stuffed animals. I don't think my LO had a preference for anything at that time so I just picked it.

How did we choose? It took a while but I know I wanted something unique and wanted to blog about it.
So we went with a vintage paper boy theme. It was a success!

I think that when LO turns one, I'll choose a theme that *I* like...HAHAHAHA. She doesn't know what's going on - I might as well do something *I* like!

We are going to do a peter pan theme. We are asking for donations in lieu of gifts (really he doesn't want for anything) and we are donating to my nephews cancer hospital. He won't remember much so it was a win win all around.

We (ok, it was just me) chose to do a bunny-themed party since I was born in the year of the rabbit and I often call her my bunny.
We had it at a play gym with a separate reception room that we decorated with all types of bunny stuff. I made a individual bunny cake (carrot cake, of course) for her, bunny cupcakes for all the guests, bunny-folded napkins, bunny food signs, and snack favors that were packaged to look like carrots. It was lots of fun, oh and the LO had a good time too.

All the first birthday parties that I've been to have had themes picked by the one year old. So naturally I thought I'd have to wait and see what my LO likes. But I'm a planner and want to start thinking about it now, even though it's 7 1/2 months in advance.
I'll probably go with a garden/rose theme since her name is Rose. That way it's at least about her even if she's not picking the theme.

I'm thinking a cupcake theme. I said if baby ended up a girl, her theme for everything would be cupcakes.LOL I'm looking on Etsy now.

We're still trying to figure this one out and time is running out. LM's birthday is in 2 months! I wanted to do a Hello Kitty theme, but will save it for when she's older and can appreciate it. Right now, we're thinking French/Parisian tea party.

Baby loved the book Very Hungry Caterpillar. We even have baby video of her listening intently at a month old. That's our party theme. We are one month away.
