We decided to take the plunge and sleep train out 5 month old son.
We placed him in his crib at 7pm. The crying started at 7:08pm, and was constant. There were no breaks and we did 5 minute check-ins the whole time. At 8:08pm, I decided to go pick him up because the crying was not letting up and I noticed he was soaking in sweat. I changed his Pjs, put him back in the crib, and he miraculously fell asleep at 8:15pm for 20 minutes. At 8:36pm he woke up and started crying. We continued the 5 minute checks and he fell asleep at 9:45 after over an hour of straight crying. This time he slept for 25 minutes. After this second wake up he cried for another hour straight, that's 3 hour total, and I couldn't take it anymore so we reverted back and put him in the RnP. He fell asleep immediately and only had one wake up, nursed, and woke up this morning at 6:30am. I know we messed up but 3 hours of crying was hard.
Please help. Did I totally mess up by not completing the training last night? Do we try again tonight? Do I wait a few days, a week? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I totally for CIO and have tried at various points with my DDs but I also believe that CIO isn't a one size fits all and isn't necessarily this magical solution for everyone. Our DD2 is the type of baby who has never tired herself out with crying. In her worst nights of CIO she has cried hysterically for three hours. Weeks into CIO she would cry for an hour every night until after about 3 weeks of trying we pulled the plug. I just don't think she is the type of kid that CIO works for
I hope things get better with your little one but know whatever you do or whatever your LO does, sleep will get better in time and just like other milestones they will sleep through the night and put themselves to sleep at some juncture!
