DS1 had been a pretty great sleeper in general since we did Ferber sleep training around 6 months. Of course there were hiccups here and there, but overall he was doing great.

In the last several weeks however he has been flat out refusing to nap. He used to love his 2ish hour nap and now, not only does he seem happy without it - there have been times that when he DOES nap (car nap, or the very rare time or two he has gone down) it makes nighttime sleep a disaster... At his 2.5 year well visit the ped seemed skeptical that he was truly ready to drop it. He advised us to keep the time at least as quiet time for him, and said he'll likely go back to napping soon enough. Problem is, DS1 will just scream and cry if we leave him in his room for quiet time...

The other sleep issue is that he's been developing fears in general, and this has carried over into nightmares. He begs us to stay in the room with him until he falls asleep. DH has tried this a few times, but then DS just wakes up throughout the night screaming and crying for us to come back in. Last night DH slept on his floor for the better part of the night...

If you've made it this far, thank you. I didn't mean to write a novel. But looking for advice or commiseration?

On our way to get a night light now...
