I need to buy a birthday gift for a 3 year old boy. He's into Curious George, monkeys, cars and planes. Any recommendations? Links appreciated! I was thinking maybe a remote control toy car but there's so many it's hard to narrow down!

Get this book! You personalize the story with the child's name. It's really well done and the illustrations are very cute. My 3yo has one and we gave one as a birthday gift to another 3yo girl.

Most of the remote control cars we've tried that are sold in toy stores are fairly flimsy. If you want something RC, I'd look into stores that cater to hobbyists because their stuff is generally better quality. (I'm not a RC hobbyist, but I know some massive geeks! )
Hot Wings planes are a good, fairly inexpensive option for toy planes and are available on Amazon. They make die-cast toys that look like real planes and I think they usually include a little stretch of foam runway. My only beef with them is that they sometimes paint the planes in flashy colors.
To package them into a larger gift, my son likes the National Geographic "Planes" reader here: http://www.amazon.com/National-Geographic-Readers-Amy-Shields/dp/1426307128/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401740200&sr=8-1&keywords=national+geographic+planes
That book mentions the SR-71 Blackbird, so you might pair it with this toy: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Bird-Sr-71-Cast-Airplane/dp/B00G79ERY8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1401740402&sr=8-8&keywords=sr-71+blackbird+toy
In my personal experience, little boys flip over the Blackbird.

P.S. This book about airports is fun. (Read Rudolf von Flugel's lines with a heavy German accent! I'm pretty sure that's a requirement. ) http://www.amazon.com/Richard-Scarrys-Day-Airport-Pictureback/dp/0375812024/ref=pd_sim_b_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0JSXSBAYKCKWQQ626YR5

Sounds a lot like my son. He got a yellow kite (like Curious George) that he is excited about as well as a Curious George matching game. Other items were things like lego duplo sets (think Disney's Planes, garbage truck, fire engine), Battat take-a-part toys (airplane and crane), and a Green Toys fire engine as well as a variety of hotwheels die-cast vehicles.

Thanks everyone!
@pelikila: I saw that Curious George matching game on Amazon and added to my cart! I also saw the Green Toys fire engine but some reviews said it doesn't work on hard wood floors?? Is that true?

@dolphin: Works great for us. Heck, C attempts to ride it sometimes regardless of carpet, tile, or laminate wood.
