My 7 month old has recently started punching/hitting herself while nursing, often times pretty hard. She does it over and over again and I have to hold her hand down lately when she nurses or she will just keep whacking herself in the eye. Did anyone else's LO's do this? I am getting freaked out! I don't want her to hurt herself!

Mine did/does this! She's only 6 months now, but she doesn't do it much anymore. She did it a ton at around 5 months. I wore a chewbeads necklace and that seemed to distract her some. I found mostly she did it when she was tired though, so I also tried to make sure I timed her feedings around that.

yes, my son did this a lot when he was 6-7 months. He doesn't do it nearly as much now at almost 8 months. He did it a lot when he was tired and usually it was only when he nursed on the right.

Sometimes my LO will tug at her hair while she is BFing and tired. I try to hold her hand (she loves to have her fingers and palm kissed!) and keep her from hurting herself.

@rattles: hmm i'll have to look into a necklace to try and distract her. yea, she does it more at her bedtime feeding when she is the most tired...
@mrskc: weird! my LO does it mostly when she is nursing on the right as well...at first i thought maybe ear infection or teething, but maybe its just normal weird baby behavior lol.
@MsLipGloss: yea, i started kissing her chubby little hands to try to keep her from giving herself a black eye

Yes! Mine did this at that age, too. I would try to move her hands and play with them or put things in them for her to play with it. She'll grow out of it!

@mrsjazz: good idea, maybe a little blanket for her to hold onto or something? i hope she grows out of it!

For awhile R would rub her hand over her eye, over and over. I would hold her hand for awhile and she would do it all over again, once I let it go. She stopped doing it after a couple weeks.

@NovBaby1112: Yeah, I worried about ear infection or teething, but I'm just chalking it up to weird baby behavior. He also went through a phase of hitting his toys on his head repeatedly and another phase where he punched himself in the jaw.
