Anyone else have this issue? This morning when I was nursing Xander, he'd pop off every minute or so to slap my face! I kept saying "No Xander, no hitting" and restraining his arm, and he'd just smile and laugh at me, then go back to nursing, only to stop a minute later and slap me again! WTF!!!

Have you taught him gentle touches? Just take his hand and stroke your cheek while saying "gentle touches". I imagine he's obviously not hitting to be mean but just that he wants to touch you.

Not so much slapping, but theses days EVERY time he nurses he sticks his arm straight in the air and waves it around to find my nose, mouth, hair or anything else to grab.

@maybebaby: YES!!!!!! She is pulling my hair out in clumps. If I try to hold her hand to give her something to grab onto, she pulls away and goes back to sticking it straight in the air or pawing at my face. It's weird. I think she's discovered textures..

E does this with a bottle and has for months. We hold her hand because one of them just goes rogue and she'll smack everything.

@T.H.O.U.: I'll have to try that! I've done that with him with other things (like when he met at cat for the first time, I'd show him how to pet the cat and say "Gentle"). I'll have to try that with him on me!

Oh yikes and ouch! We're not there yet, but DS is getting more easily distracted while nursing and will hold my nip in his mouth while he looks in the opposite direction, stretching my nip like crazy. Ouch! Hope the "gentle touches" works for you!!

@Adira: Sorry but this totally made me laugh!
R still grabs at my nose, mouth, hair, whatever while drinking her bottle. She will do it less when she holds her bottle herself, but lately she holds it with one hand, so I have to help, and then uses her other hand to grab at me. Last week, she had one sharp edge on a nail, that I missed when I cut them, and I had a cut on my nose!

Yep!! E did this all.the.time. along with pulling my hair! It was the only way she would nurse sometimes!

@Alivoo01: @Corduroy: Oh yes, the pinching! Xander does this too! He'll either pinch the nipple he's NOT working on, or as soon as he pops off, he'll grab my nipple and pinch it! He's a little jerk!!

I have a giant scratch on my cheek, tiny little cuts all around my mouth, and two bruises on my breast- all from my pinching, scratching, 7 month old! Yikes!

@Adira: You're totally not alone . . . my LO also loves to pull my hair and poke and prod me while she is nursing, She also loves to keep one leg up on my chest, and frequently thumps her foot against my chest while she's nursing . . .

@MsLipGloss: I keep my hair tied back so it's harder for Xander to grab it and pull it! But he will if he can!!! And that thumping sounds unpleasant, though Xander's too long to be able to easily put his feet up on me while nursing! Though sometimes he'll just kick my arm over and over... so fun.

@Adira: Yeah, her foot is up by my collar bone . . . it's not too bad, but *oy* And the hair . . . my LO loves my hair! If I have my hair pulled back into a pony tail, and I am holding LO, if she doesn't want to let go of me, she will straight grab my pony tail and wrap her hands up in it to avoid being pried away from me! Clever little monkey!

@MsLipGloss: What position are you guys in that she's able to get her foot there??? I'm not sure Xander would be capable of doing that. We do cradle-hold usually and his feet tend to dangle off the side of the boppy under my other arm.

Yes, L does all the same things. I can't leave the other boob exposed because he will pinch it. He's big into slapping and squeezing my boob while he eats and then pops off to pinch. He likes to turn his head while eating, sometimes bites, and sometimes whacks me in the arms and face. Lately he thinks it is hilarious to pretend suckle my belly and then blow raspberries on it. Which is cute except when you are in a hurry and the kid won't eat!!

@Adira: Cradle. She just brings her feet/legs in toward her body. And it's her top leg that she rests up by my collar bone.

@MsLipGloss: That's an interesting visual. I think maybe Xander's body is too close to mine when nursing for him to do that (maybe you have bigger boobs than me, haha). I think if he brought a leg up between us, it might make it harder for him to nurse, though I'm not sure. I'm glad he's not trying it though!

Yup both boys have done this. So annoying because I currently have a scratch in the middle of my face from the crazy baby nails that won't.stop.growing.

Yup. D does this, too. I just recently posted a pic to IG of him grabbing my nose during nursing. I have started giving him his A&A lovey, and he waves that around. It looks like he's waving the white flag, ha ha.

@Adira: I don't know!! He does the Wolverine style clawing at my chest sometimes too and occasionally kicks me in one boob while eating from the other boob.
I can't wait to bring this all up when he's a teenager

oh good, i thought i was the only one getting beat up by my baby during nursing. i tried giving him a lovey or something else to hold onto, but he holds it for a second before flinging it away and clawing/slapping at me.
if the face slapping continues (and it's purposeful as opposed to him just flailing about), perhaps you could treat it like biting and gently put him down and end the session? although truthfully i never had the courage to do that even when LO would bite me because i was too worried that his feeding schedule would be all thrown off.

I know how you feel! Mine doesn't slap me bur she grabs me by the throat to move the skin up and down and run her fingers over my collarbone, pulls my hair, kicks me in the neck/chest with her feet, plays with my eyes, nose, lips etc....crazy babies

@Adira: The baby dudes alternate between lip, hair, and neck grabbing/pinching. I just say, "NO!" really sharply, and then open their hand and say "Be gentle" while I stroke their little open hand over my cheek. I don't think it's making any significant improvement right now, but I'm hoping that it will help them "get it" sooner rather than later. In the meantime, I'm just waiting for the day I show up with my face bruised and try to tell people, "Oh, no it wasn't DH, my 8-month olds did this." Sheesh...

@edelweiss: I thought about ending the session because he did seem to just be playing, but it was his first morning feed and that's usually when he eats the most and I was worried about him being hungry if I didn't keep going!
@Mrs. Blue: I need to try to actually teach him how to be gentle like you're doing with the Dudes. Hopefully they'll eventually get what that means!

@cmomma17: G has started to use my boobs as footrests. She pulls up one leg reaaally high and then starts poking at my boob with her toes. Sigh. She also clawed the heck out of my chest today.

DS doesn't slap me but likes to put his foot in my face and will readjust his body so he can do it.
