My son has had his 2 bottom teeth for a couple of months now an one of his top just broke through. The other is about to.
He has started almost constantly grinding the top and bottom tooth. It's so loud it makes me cringe. Is this just a phase since its "new"? Anyone else's LO do this and eventually stop?

Ugh yes! I hated it! My friends son did it first so I knew what it was but the sound is awful! She did it on and off for a few weeks and stopped on her own as she got used to the new sensation of teeth I guess.

Yepp, my first did this. I always made him stop by sticking a pacifier in his month. I just couldn't stand the sound...

Omg my daughter did this and it was SO gross - made me cringe every time. I found I had to ignore it, because telling her "no" would make her laugh and then she do it more to get a reaction from me. i think she was experimenting with those new teeth and sounds.
She gradually stopped doing it...sometimes now she will still grind them if she is excited and making a funny face, but generally it has stopped and thankfully is nowhere as bad as it once was!

@Pumuckl: that's what we're doing which is perfectly timed with when I was finally committed to decrease the pacifier usage! I was going to limit it to the crib and stroller only, but I can't take the grinding sound so I've been sticking the paci in there. Oh well, will try again in a couple weeks.

Yes, DS did this at a similar age! I can't remember how long it lasted but he definitely grew out of it, maybe a month or so?

@Bubbles: thanks! Ugh I can't imagine this lasting for a month, but I feel like that's the way it is with everything in parenting. Haha. Every phase sounds awful and you want it to end and suddenly it's over and in retrospect it's SUCH a blip on the radar and not a big deal

my LO did this on and off, usually lasting a week or two at a time. he grew out of it (well, at least until the next phase).
