@Snowdrop: that's a positive at least! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

@bhbee: I would love to hear more about your green smoothie challenge. I enjoy them but I tend to shy away during the winter because it is so cold but it probably is when I need them the most.
@Snowdrop: my first cycle with b6 I think I pushed off af for like half a day. The next month I was super on top of taking it and some days even took it twice and pushed it back for two days, third month I was a bit spotty in taking it but pushed it off by one day. I have read that your body processes it in eight hours and it is water soluble so when I remember I take it twice.
Last month I did a better job of waiting to poas but somehow it just occurred to me this morning that Saturday will be 8 dpo and occasionally people get positives by then. I am so desperate to be pregnant that I seem to think the more committed I am to the "process" the higher my odds. Clearly, peeing on hpts does not up my chances but my brain is not great at logic and TTC.

@bhbee: my mom and I are doing a green smoothie challenge, too! Are you doing it through "Simple Green Smoothies?" I'm super excited - DH and I got a Vitamix for Christmas, so I've already started!

@MrsMccarthy: I have a friend who ha twin boys and they can be the sweetest or they can be the most rotten lol. They are 7 I believe so they are in that rough and tumble stage and start to get a little mouthy. But I'll take whatever I can get!
@Crystal: They don't run in my family either. I'm half Asian and half Caucasian so my chances are a little lower than most. DH is African American but unfortunately that doesn't help my egg numbers out! Poo lol

What are your plans tonight? Going out or staying in? Big night with friends or quiet night in with the family? And the question we all have on our minds: are you drinking?? lol
For me the answer is an emphatic and whole-hearted YES. Gimme that vino and the champagne, kthxbye.

Is have been very good and have not tested yet. AF due Saturday. I started the b complex this month as I start spotting 4 days out, which would be today.... See what happens.
No symptoms, feeling discouraged this cycle even though we used opk's for the first time and I got 3 days of smilies and we bd a lot around them. Having a rough week, had to put my 12 year old dog down, my fur baby, on Sunday so down in the dumps. DH being the sweet heart he is said to me last night, that maybe even though we lost Abby our family will grow this month. :). I wish, but not hopeful.

Re: Green Smoothies - I am not familiar with the green smoothie challenge, but I started drinking green smoothies when I was pregnant. My midwifery practice has *really* strict diet requirements and they recommend green smoothies as part of their diet. I LOVE them - delicious and make me feel like I am starting the day the right way, which gives me motivation to continue to eat well the rest of the day. My 11 mo DD also loves them (I have learned to make extra!), which is not surprising given that I drank a green smoothie every single day when I was pregnant with her. My go-to is spinach, banana, berry mix, Greek yogurt, flax seed, a bit of OJ, and water. I also sometimes do pineapple-berry, peach-berry, or pineapple-mango.
Re: Twins - you people who wish for twins are my heroes. There is just no way I am up for that!
Re: NYE - I have no plans. Just the way I like it. There is a bottle of good champagne in my refrigerator, a whole chicken waiting to be roasted, and a good Netflix queue. I can't wait to snuggle up with DH and enjoy a night in.
Re: my crazy cycle. Completely negative OPK this morning and creamy CM. I am going to go with a CD17 O date (which would be totally "regular" for me) and move on.

@mfa_lady: @cole: yes simple green smoothies! You just sign up for free emails online. Looks like they make it easy which is a must for me. I need to shop today to get it together to start tomorrow, we're all out of food. I am hoping my stick blender can do the job as I don't have a big blender. I really need to detoxify with some veggies after the holidays!!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@bhbee: Yeah, I love their site! They're not super overwhelming about it, you know - it's just "Hey, we like to eat more veggies in this fun and delicious way." I appreciate that attitude a LOT. I'm pumped! We'll have to keep checking in to see how it's going!

@bhbee @cole The Simple Green Smoothies instagram feed is awesome, too - they post a recipe almost daily!

I have a feeling that I'm out of the game for last cycle. No AF yet, but a BFN this morning. On the upside- I feel like myself again and it feels AWESOME. Now I'm just looking for a BFP or AF so that I can start again. New beginnings are refreshing.
I'm thinking of doing a 100 day wellness challenge with my chiropractor this year.
Anyone thinking of doing anything new a challenging for 2014?
persimmon / 1167 posts
OOooh...The Green Smoothie challenge looks really interesting!
@mfa_lady: Did you buy the e-book? Or are you just going to do with them in January?
I see that they run challenges in January, April, July and October.
I am doing a 3 day cleansing fast starting on January 18th. So maybe I will look at doing the one in April.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@HolisticMama: I'm doing the free one in January - they send you emails with recipes and shopping lists and stuff...at no cost! Let us know how it goes in April.

@HolisticMama: @mfa_lady: Bon Apetit also has a 2 week cleanse that you can get for free on their website. I've done a modified version of it the last two years, and it's lovely.

@LovelyPlum: ooh! Looks so yummy (and healthy, of course!). Thanks for sharing!

@LovelyPlum: Really?! I love the idea of Bon Apetit. I've never subscribed to the magazine. Are their recipes good?Since I've cut all the artificial foods out of my diet- I just find myself delighting in real, simple, seasonal whole fabulous food. It's such a nourishing and enriching part of life.
I wish that Food and Wine did a cleanse with wine! LOL! Haha.
"The Food Lovers Cleanse"- Why have I not heard of it! It looks SO fun! I'm going to do it right after my 3 day fast.
It's nice to focus on something other than TTC. I feel like I lost myself a bit this month.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@mfa_lady: of course!
@HolisticMama: I *adore* Bon Apetit. It is the one magazine that is my go-to. I just find it so fascinating, and the recipes are really yummy! Even when I don't follow them to a tee, I feel like I learn so much. My subscription is my standing Christmas gift from my father-in-law, and it's pretty much my favorite present all year
And I'm glad that you can find something else to focus on. It will make you feel so good, and getting in the right headspace is so important with all of this TTC craziness that invades our brains

@littlek: hahahha I'm just cray cray. I wouldn't hold your breath for me. Our chances and patheticay slim. At this stage it's kind of fun to symptom spot but I know it won't be if it goes on too long with BFN

I *love* green smoothies! I need to start making them again and really focusing on whole clean eating.
Re: New Years: the hubs and I decided to stay home. It's been a rough last quarter of the year, so we are happily welcoming in 2014. I got champagne and mussels in my fridge and I'm going to make as shmancy dinner.

Ok question for the bees who have been TTC for awhile
I have my yearly physical with my gp on Thursday. She is a strong believer in try for a year then start testing. This is cycle 3for us, which I am confident is negative so heading into cycle 4. We started using opk's this cycle, I have a crazy schedule so I don't think tempting would work for me but willing to try if she says so. What do I tell her?? Just that heading into cycle 4, using opk's, cycle lengths, symptoms? I have had issues in the past with excessive bleeding, cysts and had an iud imbed in my uterus wall. My DH is type 1 diabetic and his endo suggested to him that most diabetics are fine- male type 1- but some have issues. I am also 31 at the end of January. I don't want to wait a year. I know it is still early but I don't want to still be doing this in a year and be frustrated with her. If I had no prior history maybe, but with my past issues and my age I want to get this show on the road.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
grapefruit / 4028 posts
@MrsScottish: I would share my concerns with her. Does she know your past history?
Maybe she would be willing to look more into it in 6 months given your health history, vs waiting a year.
Remember that up to 70ish% of couples will conceive by six months and something like 85% of couples within a year, so you are well within that window. Doesn't hurt to talk about it to your OBGYN though!
persimmon / 1167 posts
@MrsScottish: I have a PPO insurance, so I actually just made an appointment directly with a reproductive endocrinologist. Even before trying...AT ALL...our RE recommended that we could begin treatment if we wanted, based on our fertility testing. I thought that was interesting.
It would be nice if you could get a referral (if you need one) or just schedule an appointment with an RE to get his or her opinion. They truly are the ones that are extensively trained and knowledgeable about TTC with potential issues.
My plan is to try 6 months, then pick up an ovacue and try for another 6 months...and then look into treatment options.

I am now doing my 2nd round of Clomid (50mg) and am 3dpo...is it okay do drink (i mean its New Years, but im not planning on getting shwasty)?
grapefruit / 4028 posts
@newatthis: I'm a drink til it's pink kind of girl, so I vote yes. However, I'm also not a big drinker, but I'll definitely have some champagne tonight!

@MrsScottish: I am in my 9th cycle right now. My OBGYN started the testing phase 2mo ago with testing me for PCOS which came back negative and put me on a 3mo 50mg Clomid script. Meanwhile my husband got tested 2mo ago to see if there was anything on his end. Everything looked good except for the shape, which the dr said might have just been an off day. He JUST got retested this past Monday and were waiting to hear about results. Meanwhile, my OBGYN said g, if we have no success on these 3 rounds of Clomid, I need to go in for the filopian tube dye test to see if there is any blockage. Long story long, my OBGYN has been extremely productive in our TTC and if you feel that you dont have a very supportive dr. im sure you can find someone who will work with you. My dr said usually they dont start testing and doing things under a year...but in this society, we are working professionals and want things done when WE want them Hope this helps a little!!

@MrsScottish: I chatted with my gyn as we were starting to ttc and she said given my history and age (31, cysts and some undiagnosed issue that went away with hormonal birth control) that she would do preliminary testing at the 6 month mark. I think she only was making me wait the 6 months to make sure the hormones were out of my system. Given your circumstances I would push hard for tests either now or at the 6 month mark-- not because I have any reason to think anything is wrong but because what on earth is the point in waiting? Could you maybe do some research and see what tests might be appropriate and then ask about them? I would defer to my doctor in which ones actually make sense for me but it helps to go into the conversation educated. Good luck!

@newatthis: I will drink tonight too despite being in the tww, I am not really a heavy drinker though and I will probably top out at two drinks through the evening. Most people go with drink 'til it's pink!
