I'm planning on buying DH an acoustic guitar for the holidays (we haven't exchanged gifts yet!). Any recommendations for a good one? He's a leftie, and I'd like to stay under $500 if possible. Thanks!

I just asked DH and he said Takamine might be in that price range. He is partial to Taylor guitars but he said they start at around $700-800.

What a great gift! My husband suggested a Fender. To be honest, I bought a cheapie Hohner for $100 in college and it sounded pretty good for the price.

I bought my husband a guitar for our engagement. It was an Taylor acoustic-electric and I went with my BIL to a independent music shop. I paid around $800, but got really good advice from the staff. I told them my price range and the music DH likes to play and they suggested a few options.
My DH is a lefty too!

@hilsy85: one of the best for the money is Seagull. They are made in Canada and use nice pure woods. Others at your price point might use composites. I highly recommend!

Lovely!! We bought my BIL an Ovation for around that much. He loved it.

I bought one for DH for his birthday last year and his bandmates recommended Ovation. It's best if you can get one that was made in America. I bought it off of Craigslist and got a really good deal, I made sure to bring one of his band members to test it first.
