Looking to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly about either! Currently have one child and will have no more than two in the future (plus a furry one). Anything will be more space from our current tiny car situation but want to hear it all!

I have the newer Pilot. Love it! We have three kids and totally need the space. Very roomy and it fits everything we need. I love the camera on the left mirror which shows you the blind spot.

@fmmtk: ok, so I don't have either, however, one of my best friends mother recently purchased a Pilot and my friend had some major car envy. She loved driving it and said the model had captains chairs and was really roomy while not feeling huge.

We have the 2016 Pilot and loooooove it. The Pilot is definitely bigger than the MDX so if space is a concern I’d go with the Pilot. We just didn’t see the benefits the MDX brought to the table to justify the higher price.

We have a 2015 Pilot (older boxy model) and LOVE it. So spacious. We’ve got two kids. And typically a lot of stuff. Trunk is huge. 3rd row option it’s great.

I have an Acura! Love it! It’s the RDX though so a tad smaller than the M DX. The make is awesome! If given another child I will be looking at the MDX! Good luck!

I also have an MDX and love it! Mine's older, though (2008 I think - though I recently drove a 2017 as a loaner car while mine was being serviced and it didn't seem significantly different in "feel"/layout other than the placement of some vents and dashboard controls)...I have three kids, and all three carseats fit comfortably in the second row. There's PLENTY of room in the trunk when I only use the second row; if I'm taking adult passengers in the third row, trunk capacity is severely limited - I'd have to unload stuff from the trunk so my passengers could get in and out, and I can't fit a stroller in the remaining space if both rear row seats are up. Optional 3rd row, while there, is very shallow - it's hard to fit a FF carseat in there and impossible to fit any of the RF seats we have. Access to the third row is only through the trunk if you have more than one carseat installed due to where the breaks in the second row bench fall.
BUT - if you say you're stopping at two kids, I love it. I, on the other hand, might be swapping to either a Pilot touring edition, an Infiniti, or (sigh....most likely) a Suburban. I really can't get my head around a minivan, but I am reluctantly starting to admit I need a little more room.

If it helps, Acuras are Honda's luxury brand (like Lexus is made by Toyota). So you'll obviously be paying more for the luxury brand name, but it's the same type of car made by the same company. The Acura has all of the bells and wistles of a luxury car.
Personally, I think you can get a high end Honda for less than a base model Acura and it has a lot of the same features.

I have a 2014 pilot and love it! Seating for 8, I have 3 car seats in the middle row. Tons of trunk space. I took it to the Toyota dealer we bought it from a few weeks ago for an oil change and the guy working on my car even commented how nice it is. I have the touring edition and love it!

I have a 2016 Pilot (the newer design) and LOVE it! It took some adjustment because it's so large compared to the CRV I had before it, but two years later I have zero complaints.

@matador84: How's the access to the third row with three car seats installed? Actually, how's access to the third row, period? I'm curious because I wonder if a Pilot would really solve any of my current car problems (namely, getting kids in and out for school pick up/drop off, and transporting the occasional extra adult passenger)
@Mamatimes3: How do you place your three kids in the Pilot? Who sits where?
@fmmtk: Sorry, not trying to totally thread-jack - hope you don't mind me asking 3-kid Pilot questions!!!

@pinkelephant - not at all! We ended up purchasing a pilot this weekend. It had much more room than the MDX between the rows and in cargo space. I’m not sure how 3rd row access would be with three car seats though (but I definitely think three car seats would fit in the second row!).

@PinkElephant: okay so I have a unique situation where my kids go to school, to be droppped off they have to exit the right side of the vehicle and must be out of their car seats. SO I didn’t want the captains chairs because I would have to climb to the back to get my oldest out.
I currently have a Chico keyfit behind the driver, Britax marathon in the middle (with latch), and a Britax booster (parkway I think?) with clicktight behind the passenger. I can’t use the 3rd row (unless I’m doing something wrong), with all car seats on the second row because the seats can’t fold down. It works great for us now. When the older two are old enough, we will have plenty of options to use the 3rd row if needed and that’s what we love. If we do have others riding with us, it’s not impossible to use the 3rd row, I can put two car seats (one latch) in the 3rd row and still use the 2nd row in a different way. Just for my everyday use now, we need to use the whole 2nd row and can’t use the 3rd. Love love love my pilot!

@PinkElephant: when I first got it, I had all three in the second row. I had three kids under 4. Now we’ve moved the oldest to the 3rd row in a booster and the 2 car seats in the 2nd row.

@PinkElephant: when I had all 3 car seats in the 2nd row, we still used the 3rd row sometimes. The person just climbed through the back. A bit inconvenient but worth it to me to have all 3 seats together.

I love this thread! We’ve been waiting to find the right car and these have been my top two contenders!

@PinkElephant: my sister has 3 in a pilot and has them all in the second row. We have also fit my LO's car seat in the 3rd row (and me back there too!) on a few occasions. Tight but doable.

@PinkElephant: so my mom is car shopping and the new VW atlas has this awesome feature with how the second row seat folds to be able to keep a car seat installed but still get into the third row! DH and i thought it was amazing! and it's a top contender for my mom.

@matador84: I still sometimes have to help my oldest buckle in the back but it’s not bad! I my Pilot.
