I know we're all so excited to dress up our babies, but any moms (or dads) dress up as well? If so, what are you going to be?

I usually throw on my witch hat to go trick-or-treating, but this year Xander has demanded that we all dress up as superheroes! He's the Flash, Logan is Superman, and he told Hubs and I to get Batman and Wonder Woman costumes, which we did. Should be fun.

@bubblegum: I was thinking about trying to be the Book Thief (I'm a school librarian) by dressing up in the black and white "thief" costume and holding a mesh bag of books.
But then I started to over analyze it. Will people really think of the black and white stripes as a thief, or will they think "prisoner", and is the book even popular enough for people to guess? I'm still debating.

@Adira: Aww that will be super fun! We always try to dress up to match DS but now that we have DD too, it's a little trickey lol
@Anagram: I just busted out laughing! Maybe add a sign to the bag of books?! I know that book!

@bubblegum: Like, what does a thief dress as? I googled it, and sure enough the black and white striped costume came up, but isn't that an old-timey prison uniform?

We do family costumes every year, Halloween is one of my favorites. I will probably cry the first year my kids don't want to do a family costume!
This year is moana, I'm Te Fiti, DH is Maui, DD1 moana and dd2 Pua. If I get them all done I time I might make the dog hei hei.

DD wanted to be a superhero. So she is going to be supergirl, DH will be Clark Kent with the open shirt showing a superman shirt, and I will be Lois Lane. DH and I own all of the components of our "costumes"

I live near Salem, MA so Halloween is huge here for all ages - we have multiple costume events to attend every October! DH and I don't have costumes yet this year, but last year we were a family of dinosaurs - LO is still super into them so we may wear our costumes to one of the events again this year.
I'm following this thread to shamelessly steal an idea for this year

i was outside yesterday evening and my neighbors walked by and reminded us how "big a deal" halloween is on our street. so i think i need to be the bride of frankenstein! or some sort of vampire. the last time i dressed up DH and i were "Jon and Kate plus 8" in 2009

@MrsRoo: we are doing Moana too. Dd1 is moana, dd2 (21 months) is going to be Hei Hei. I'm planning to be gramma tala and just wear a red beach sarong I already have and a flower in my hair. On the fence for DH- Maui or kakamora. I'm worried about a Maui costume being racially insensitive, since the official Disney one was pulled from the shelves.

@Foodnerd81: I read a very long argument/explanation of the Moana/maui debate in another parenting group I'm in. I think the *geneneral* agreement for costumes in general is: Don't change your skin tone (I guess the Maui costume that was pulled had fake brown "skin"), and don't dress as just other cultures for a costume. But since Moana is a fictitious costume (not say, a general stereotype of a culture, like a "geisha girl"), she's okay to dress as, as long as people aren't changing their skin tone.
Maui is a bit different because apparently the tattoos on his body are actual religious symbols in polynesian culture, so some people find it offensive that others would put those on the body as a costume.
Cosplay rules are that anyone can dress as any character (meaning you aren't relegated to only your own ethnicity for costumes).

@Anagram: that's a great explanation, thank you!
@Foodnerd81: I'm actually going to paint their pumpkins as little kakamoras.

@Anagram: thanks- that's a good summary of what I've been thinking and reading. I'm thinking about getting DH a tan/ beige long sleeve shirt and drawing the "tattoos" myself and just sort of making them scenes from the movie.

@Foodnerd81: that's what I had bought for DH's costume. A tan shirt and some black fabric markers.

Both my girls are going to be peacocks, and lo1 wants me to be a peacock too; I'm thinking I might get feather earrings and wear a blue shirt and call it a day lol

If I can figure out the wig, I am going to get dressed up as Sia!
