Spin off of the mispronouncation thread. Are there phrases that adults say that make you go huh?
When I was working at an airport, I used to hear this one all the time: "Where you stay at?" (Where do you live?) I used to respond "I stay right here!"

I cringe a little when I hear someone say "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes." I want to ask if it still holds true if the purpose isn't intensive at all, but I'm pretty sure that's an asshole move.

@raspberries: The looks I used to get when I would say "well I stay right here" , were priceless. They would then correct the question by asking where I was living (as in which surrounding city). They definatly didn't like it.

Native Philadelphians use the word "jawn" a lot. I still don't quite understand it, and I lived there for 10 years. I guess it's basically a word to use in place of any other word. Always a noun. It's weird.
I grew up in Central PA where we have a lot of sayings/phrases that make people stare at us with wide-open mouths. The first one that comes to mind is the word "rutch," which we use when someone is really restless in bed. "I had a hard time sleeping last night...I was rutching all over the place!"

"I could care less" (instead of "couldn't care less") bothers me. It doesn't make sense - if you COULD care less, you still care some!

@littlebug: I've had to coach DH out of saying espresso. I love him dearly but yeah...not a word!

"Should I get down from my car?"
They use it as "getting out" of their car.

I hated, "what you sayin." I know it's slang for what's up but I never knew how to respond to it!
@raspberries: haha! I am not bold enough to say that- DH is though.

Here are a few others from when I lived in Hawaii.
1. You know da kine (pretty much any noun)
2. You know yeah (to finish a sentance)

As someone from the east coast and now in the PNW, it throws me off when adults use the word 'hella'. Like, 'That's hella cool!'
Also with my Philly accent, I say 'whatyougonnado?' and people around here do not understand me. I have to enunciate and say 'What are you going to do?' Also, I use 'gonna' a lot.
I'm asian and I hate when people ask me 'Where you from?' I tell them I'm from Pennsylvania. Then I get 'No, where are you really from?' or 'Where are your parents from?' Eventually I tell them where my parents were born.

@littlebug: I don't use 'jawn' but I'm more of a Philadelphia suburbs girl. I'm definitely not a city girl. I understand what they are saying. Guess I grew up with some kids saying it in school so it doesn't bother me.

@MrsRcCar: I was going to say that, "where u stay" is pigeon here In Hawaii and I hear it all day along. Along with, "where u grad?" "What time stay?" I hate absolutely hate when they answered "tree turtles" (3:30) the pigeon over here drives me nuts! MIL is teaching ds pigeon it makes me cringe and I am constantly correcting her. I don't want my son to speak like that or even have that accent!

@Charm54: Ughhhh, the "seen" thing drives me up the wall. I seen him at the grocery store. I seen it somewhere over there. Wut?!
Could care less is really irritating. And "on accident", I don't get that either. I say "by accident".

"On accident" instead of BY accident. Better yet, let's all just promise to say accidentally
Adverbs FTW.
Like I tell all of my students, you can't do anything ON an accident, it's not a place!!

@Charm54: "seen" definitely bothers me as well.
Also using double negatives!
