R will be 7 months old on Saturday. She babbles "dada" and "baba", makes a "tch" sound and makes vowel sounds but she doesn't babble "mama" yet. Did anyone else's LO start babbling "mama" later than 7 months?

B is 7 months and doesn't really babble "mama." He makes "mama" sounds when he is whining/crying but he doesn't babble it all day like he does "dada."

I don't remember an exact age, but I don't think M babbled mama for a long time (I'm pretty sure it was after 7 months). At 15 months she's still much more likely to say words that start with d or b sounds than m. I'm sure it's fine!

I think it's pretty common, you just hear more from the people whose babies do say it early. My baby is 8.5 months old and just started babbling dada, no other words.

@swedishfish: my LO is opposite! Tons of mamama, not much dada or baba!

My LO said dada around 6 months, but didn't say mama until probably close to 10 months. She could say owl, all done and a few other words well before she said mama.

Xander's almost 11 months and he only JUST barely started to say "ma ma ma ma". I've heard it 3 times so far!

I think I heard my first mama at nine months. She was specific with it, but would only use it if she was hurt or was mad. Dada got a lot more play for a long time. Mama didn't come regularly (or happily) until she was eleven months.

Ummm my LO is 19 months and FINALLY said Mama last week. Been waiting a long time! He was babbling all sorts of other stuff and started saying more a couple months ago so it didn't worry me.

@Pepper: I know! We already started talking 1st birthday party here but that's because I'm nuts.

@Pepper: Seriously!
No mama here! He loves to "talk", but not really dada either!

@swedishfish: @Pepper: I have started planning his party, booked his photo shoot, and started an amazon wish list for gifts.
*Hangs head in shame*
ETA: Gifts that we plan to buy, not a birthday registry or anything silly like that!

My daughter started babbling mama at about that age, and she was always really ahead verbally. Babbling 'mama' or 'dada' at 7 months is pretty early. A child not doing it is really normal.

my DD is 15 months and barely says mama. she'll only do it if she is mimicking someone. the m sound is something she isn't comfortable with yet. she's been saying dada since she was 6 months.

@rahlyrah: Right there with ya! I also have a Pinterest board started... I made it private so nobody knows my level of crazy.

@rahlyrah: @Pepper: I win. We already bought one of her gifts in November. Hahahaha...it's funny because it's sad.

LO didn't say mama until 15 months. Had no interest in any "m" sounds until then.

@rahlyrah: This is C too-- I'm not sure I'd call it babbling since she mostly does it when she is whining and crying, but she does make very clear mama sounds. But not happy mama babbling.
But I take it as when she is crying, she wants me, therefore she's calling me. Right?

Thanks, everyone! I feel better that R doesn't seem to be behind verbally. This Early Intervention evaluation has got me overanalyzing every perceived developmental delay. I promise I'll be better once Monday's here.

19 months and just started to somewhat say mama. And it could still just be a coincidence!

@Foodnerd81: my LO only ever said mama when he was crying for the longest time! Then he just started calling me 'mom' and only ever calls me mom. I have no clue what at what age though but it was definitely well later than 7 months.

Mine is almost 8 mos. Lots of dada, and no mama. I can't wait til she can!
@Pepper: I, too, have a Pinterest board for S's first bday party--but public for all to see! Shameless!

Dd didn't consistently say "mama" til after a year!! It was all about dada! She even said "duck" often before she said "mama." But it was worth the wait! It will happen, don't worry!

LO is 11 months and just started saying "mamamamamamama" like a month ago...but it's definitely babbling and not like, "hey, mama, I want you". Not sure if she knows the connection between "mama" and me yet. Although the other day DH looked at her and said "dada" and she looked right back at him and said "mama"....lol
I wouldn't worry!

We were all about the dada for a long time here. I think he only really started saying mama around 12 months.

@Pepper: @swedishfish: My 8 month old is the opposite, she says mama, mum mum, mum mum ahhhhh, all sorts of M noises but no dada. I think it hurts my DH's feelings. LOL So I work with her every chance I get but she still doesn't say it. So I ended up saying BaBa which is dad in Vietnamese (and Chinese too) and she does say Ba Ba but no dada.
