If you had asked the question "how do you feel about this name?" I'd have thought it would be pronounced "jula-ja"

Honestly, I don't like it at all as Julija, never mind that the majority of Americans will not pronounce it correctly and always write it wrong.
I think it is a BEAUTIFUL and classic name and the spelling should def stay the way it traditionally is.

For what it's worth: id pronounce it JOO-LEE-HA because i'd take the "j" has the same "j" in the Latino boy's name: Jose.

I would immediately think the extra J was a typo and at worst I would call her Julie Ja as in Ja Rule.

My name is an alternative spelling for a very common name and 99.99% pronounce it the right way, but it's still such a headache. Stick with Traditional.

Stick with traditional...your little girl will thank you some day.

If it were me, I would only use Julija if I was going to pronounce it the traditional Slovenian way: YOO-lee-yah.

Dh & I also have talked about the name Julia for a girl and we have a very common boring last name! In fact dd's name is even shorter and still fairly traditional even with our boring name and yet we love it. You don't need to spell it different. Great choice!

Definitely the normal way! If you two were like… FROM Belgium then I'd maybe say okay because that is the traditional way for you. But I think without that super strong connection it would be way too much trouble for your LO to explain the odd spelling every. single. time. she gave her name.

I think I'd stick with the traditional spelling. Although I like the use of the j in the middle to make the "y" sound, If I were reading the name I would assume that both j's make the same sound making the name Yu-Lee-Ya.

Are you Belgian? If not I think it seems like way more trouble than it is worth. If it is pronounced Julia just spell it Julia.... Adding the second J will complicate things so much.

My goddaughter / niece is named Julia so I am partial to the traditional spelling (and it is a beautiful name). Plus, I have to spell out my last name 100% of the time and I would hate it so much more to have to do that with my first name.
