When your Amazon registry completion discount becomes available, can you only purchase items already on your registry, or can you add other items?
Also, you only get one purchase with the discount, right?

Does it only cover "baby" items? I'm wondering if postpartum items like pads, sitz bath, tucks pads, etc will be discounted? Probably not...

Only one time, but you can still add items. It depends on the item's category: e.g. no books. Some health items will appear under a baby category and others won't, but you can just look at the list a few times before you purchase.

You can add items, but you can only use the discount once.
One thing to keep in mind, you will probably have people buy baby gifts for you off your registry one LO arrives. Which means if you add a bunch of postpartum items, others will see those items on your registry. This may or may not make a difference to you, but I would not want a coworker seeing a sitz bath on my registry.

There is a way to get the discount with out purchasing all at once. When it becomes available, add all items you want to your cart. Then you can save items for later and it will still give you the discount up to 60 days past your due date. Once you make your first purchase, you can no longer add items to get the discount. Hope that makes sense.

@mrskc: Ok, so when you make the first purchase, nothing else can be bought with the discount, including items "saved for later"? Or you can use it on those, but nothing added after that?

@Arden: you can still buy the items saved for later and get the discount but you can't add anymore new items.

@mrskc: Ok, so I should add everything we could possibly need to the "saved for later" list and then I can order it whenever we need it?

The discount was also only good for items fulfilled through Amazon - some things we put on the registry were fulfilled through other companies so the discount wasn't valid for those.

@Arden: yep. Add everything to your cart from the registry completion view that you could possibly want then go to your cart and click "save for later" to items you don't want to purchase yet. You will be able to get the discount up to 60 days past your due date. I know it sounds confusing. Hope that's clear.

Some postpartum stuff that's obviously baby-related is eligible, like Earth Mama Angel Baby. The item has to be sold/fulfilled by Amazon and be part of the baby department to qualify. So general health stuff like tucks probably won't count. But I just used my code today by changing my due date (discount immediately showed up - shows up 30 days before your "due date") and I believe you can continue to add to your registry after the discount is applied, and as long as what you add is eligible the discount shows up. And yep, it's only good on one purchase.
Of course, you can always set up another "registry" but there's a certain timeframe within which you cannot use another completion code (should be in their faqs).
ETA it's 8 months before you can use another completion code and a registry needs to be active 14 days before you're eligible.

@ladyfingers: But if you set up a whole different Amazon account tied to a different email address... That could work, right? Will they catch me if I have the same credit card for both accounts?

@Arden: you're an evil genius I don't think the cc matters, one could easily be your husband's account using the same cc...
