I'm sure it works, but I don't like it.

I think you can stand up for yourself without resorting to an eye for an eye most of the time.

@MamaMoose: Exactly this. We had to resort to biting my oldest lo back (it only took once) but I would never want someone else biting my child

I don't believe in it partly because I don't think that revenge is really a concept I want to teach my kids, but also because I have a horrible memory as a child of being forced my my mom to bite my sister. I didn't want to but she threatened to spank me if I didn't bite my sister, so I did, and it apparently wasn't hard enough so she made me do it again. I cried the whole time and I still remember the sensation of biting her. And she still bit people after that, so it didn't work either. I think younger kids bite because they feel powerless, and that's an issue that should be addressed by positive parenting, not inflicting pain and further powerlessness.

@Rockies11: that is really fucked up and abusive. I think that is horrible of her to make you do that. I am sorry you went through that.

@luckypenny: I don't think it is healthy to make you bite her. It doesn't even make sense. Even for an adult that seems like twisted thinking. I agree with @yoursilverlining:... but I can't imagine acting that way as an adult- revenge is not a part of healthy relationships.

@yoursilverlining: & @MoonMoon already said my thoughts. I rarely say never, especially in regards to parenting, but I would never do that. @Rockies11: that makes me queasy

In theory I am against it.

However, there is a kid at the playground who is always really rough and pushing my kid and other kids around. Yesterday I witnessed this boy try to scratch my son in the face near his eyes. His mother usually sees and never does anything at all. I would never actually say it, but I want to tell my son that he can hit back if this kid is hurting him. Instead, I've told my son that the boy is not very nice and he doesn't have to play with him if he doesn't want to.
