But Republicans actually VOTED to silence a Senator who's "not being nice" to another Senator. What the actual fuck has this government come to?!

McConnell referenced Rule 19 (section 2) which prohibits any Senator, directly or indirectly, from imputing any other Senator with "conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator."
So. Apparently, NOW the Reps are worried about appearing to be racist. Perfect timing.

@pwnstar: But it was ok to call our President a liar during the State of the Union address.

@littlebug: Of course it was. He wasn't a Senator. And there is no Rule 19 for the SOTU. [written in a totally sarcastic tone]
Rule 19 is, apparently, very old school and rarely used. I'm sure much worse things have been said/alleged during confirmation sessions that haven't been censored. I'm just as appalled as everyone else. But I'm not surprised. Trump et al. are essentially using the same tactic with the media.

This is appalling. I mean so basically they are saying the qualifications (or dis-qualifications) of any member of the Senate who is nominated for a cabinet post cannot be debated by the body which is in charge of debating them?

And now 2 other Senators have read the Coretta Scott King letter, in it's entirety, without being called into question or silenced. The difference? They're men. Oh I just want to punch things!!!

@littlebug: Sex is little matter (due to the fallout, I'm pretty sure they were trying to avoid making the same mistake again). The take away here is that Warren now has a much bigger platform and audience for the information contained in the CSK letter, and she is bringing more light to the ridiculous antics of the Senate majority. Especially because these letters have already been made public, YEARS ago (1986). By shutting her down they blew this issue up. And, hopefully, this has inspired more people to get off their asses and VOTE.
Eta: Here is a link to CSK's letter:

@pwnstar: I am watching the decade series on Netflix, last night I watched an episode of the 60s on the sit ins, demonstrations and freedom rides. The big thing I took away from it was the calculated efforts of the leaders to create scenarios to which people responded and this provided media fodder. History repeats itself, doesn't it?

@pwnstar: exactly, I'm sure way more people watched her read it on Facebook Live than would have seen it on c-span

I'm a little afraid that the R's did it on purpose though because they want Warren to be the face of the party because they think she is more divisive.
I hate Mitch McConnell.

@petitenoisette: I don't think McConnell initially had anything on his mind other than his id-driven impulse to shut down another #nastywoman. Misogynistic asshat was so wonderfully short-sighted in this situation . . . he's such a fucking sellout:
