@Rainbow Sprinkles: I live a couple of hours south but I think @MrsRCCar lives near there. If you are friends with KJPugs on FB/IG you might want to ask her too. It's within driving distance of Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, and tons of cities in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio.

I could get a job in that area but DH said no. I think if I had a lot of trouble finding a job on the east coast I would consider moving to the mid west. Though, as someone who lived in PA and now WA, I've never been exposed to tornadoes (well tiny ones that touched down for like a few seconds) and that thought of being in an area that has them kinda freaks me out. (Though, my DH tells me I freak out about a lot of things and I'm on the more cautious side.) ETA: Oh, I do live in Seattle and the one worry is that we are close to Mt. Rainier (the volcano)... so far our 7 years of living here, I haven't seen anything. My friends and family on the east coast managed to feel an 'earthquake' before I did.

I've been to Indianapolis (well, outside of it) for work many times. It's definitely more rural than what I'm used to. When I was there, DH came with me and we drove 3 hours to visit Chicago, so that was nice. My brother lives in Michigan so I would be close to him. He travels 9 hours to PA each holiday and I believe Indianpolis would be an extra hour or so to travel home. For someone who used to do road trips from Seattle to San Fran (14 hour road trip), 9-10 hours to visit home isn't all that bad. Though, we do have twins now so I'm sure long road trips are more difficult and take a whole lot more planning. It is much better than doing a 42 hour trip (without stopping) or 5-6 hour flight. I do hate that the only way I can get home is to fly.

I don't know anything else about it though and I'm interested in what others say.

It's terrible and you CANNOT move there.

I'm from Indianapolis, though I grew up in the city on the East side (in a little historic area called Irvington). I moved away from the Midwest after college because personally, I was in search of the experience of living in a bigger city. Plus, the politics are not exactly my cup of tea.

That said, I did love growing up there and there's no denying that the cost of living is amazing. I went to Catholic schools because the city schools are not great.

If I moved back, I would move to the city, for sure. But again, that's in large part because I would have the option of private school. My personal dream neighborhood is Meridian Kessler (near Northside). I love the proximity to downtown and the relative diversity compared to the further reaches of the North and South sides.

Greenwood is fine and has good schools, etc. It is also very suburban, as is Carmel. I'm not really into the cookie cutter thing and excessive traffic, so neither are ideal for me. But absolutely, a lot of people find a ton to like about those areas.
