If you're familiar with Korean names or how babies are named in Korea, I have a question for you!
My dad wants to give the baby the Korean name Uju, which means "universe". At first I thought he meant that the characters meant that but after looking up the Korean word for universe I realized that it was the actual word, kind of like naming your kid Sky. Is this an actual name in Korea?

I'm Chinese and my parents did something similar for my son, except they picked a Chinese name that resembled his English name. They gave me a few to choose from and I picked the one with my favourite meaning (and yes, it's an actual Chinese word). Mine and my sister's chinese names were also chosen similarly. We are a very Westernized family though so I'm can't vouch for whether this is the proper naming protocol!

Giving children purely Korean names, not based on Chinese han-ja characters, is pretty popular in Korea now! Off the top of my head, I'm thinking of names like Bada (ocean), Hanul (sky), Yuri (glass)... we gave our daughter a more traditional, han-ja name but I know lots of people lately are going with completely Korean, non han-ja names.

Yes actually a name but a little unique like really being named universe. But I've heard of the name so not uncommon.
I knew a family with three girls names Star, Sky, and Galaxy. That was their names in Korean and parents just translated to English for their American names.

Yea I've heard of it!! Yes like other ppl mentioned it's seems popular now to do non Han-ha names...
