Does anyone here have any good or bad experience with an electric lawn mower? Our lawn mower looks to be on its last legs, and we’re considering replacing it with an electric one. We have a fair amount of trees, so we’d want one that is powerful and can mulch, and that would last at least an hour on a single charge. Are electric ones worth it, or should we go with gas again? Thanks!

Several of our neighbors have electric, but we're also in town on smallish lots. Ours is ~1/3 acre and takes about 1/2 an hour to mow, which is pretty typical. One of the neighbors (an older, fairly grumpy man) was raving about his recently and how he didn't think that he would like it when his son gave it to him, but it mulches really well, can't believe it's eco-friendly and actually works, etc. I know it's Greenworks Pro, and I believe it's this one: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Greenworks-Pro-60-volt-Brushless-Lithium-Ion-21-in-Cordless-Electric-Lawn-Mower-Battery-Included/1000179065 It does say in the specs up to 60 minutes of run time, so might not meet your needs.

I love the one I got last year! The brand is Ego and it cuts through my weedy lawn well. I usually charge the battery after 2 sessions of 20 min of mowing each, but I have managed 3 sessions before (so, 1 hour total), but the battery is still pretty new, I expect it to lose charge over time.

I have a green works one, it works well as long as you're grass doesn't get very tall and isn't really thick. It's quiet, so that's a plus if I'm mowing the backyard and my son is running in and out of the house.
I wouldn't use it though on a very big lot for sure.

I used to have one for our townhouse and it was perfect. But now we have a corner lot and it would not be adequate at all so I have a self propelled gas one which is amazing. TBH no one has electric here because of the lot sizes but if yours is small/medium it would be fine I’m sure.

We’ve had one since we bought our house, so 12 years - I love it! The only downside for me is that my husband tends to forget to plug it in when he’s done mowing and then it’s dead the next time we need it, but that’s a problem with the husband, not the mower.

My only experience with one is running over the cord with the mower when I was 17 ish...
I think we’ll look into one when our gas mower dies, though it may last forever. I didn’t actually know mowers existed that charges and ran cordless until today.

We have an electric one but we have a hill so our backyard isn't too big and we can get away with it. My husband actually has two batteries charging that he can alternate with bc not only the mower but the battery is also good for the trimmer, the leaf blower, and some other things I can't remember

We have a corded electric Greenworks one and I love it. I mowed the lawn as a kid with gas and I am so over it. This one I plug it in and it starts like a charm and goes! It took a little while to get used to the pattern for mowing with the cord, but I have been very happy.

It takes us about an hour to mow our lawn (approximately half an acre), and I want to make sure if we go this route that it’ll last long enough. Plus, we get a TON of leaves in the fall, and rather than rake them (there are soooo many), all of us in the neighborhood just mulch, so the lawn mower needs to be powerful enough to handle that.
I really do like the idea of an electric one if we can find one that meets our needs.

I think it depends on the size of your yard. My neighbors have one and their yard is maybe a 1/2 acre. He can only mow part of it at a time on the charge. We have an acre and have a traditional has push mower.

I've never used one but I had a neighbor who had one. He accidentally ran over the cord lol. Bless his heart. He said he did not like it because of that. I think if you have a small small yard its fine for a corded one but where we live we have pasture grass and thick thick weeds and big yards so it wouldn't work. We have a gas push mower
