I found that after birth, the pads and mesh undies were alright, but they left quite a bit to be desired in terms of coverage. I still bled through and had to ask for those "puppy pads" (sorry-- that's what they remind me of) frequently.
Anyone try adult diapers or Depends? Pros/cons? Recommendations? I am all ears.

Actually I had the depends underwear brief things and thought they were awesome. I found them to be the best coverage.

I bled WAY less post my second so hopefully that is your experience as well. But I did use some of the depends underwear for labor! As soon as I thought it was real I put some on, because with my first my water broke allllll over our white couch. It definitely kept things contained and I went through a couple I think. So could be a good purchase to have on hand for either end of things if you plan to go into labor on your own!

I hadn't heard of this before I had my son, but basically everyone I know that's had a kid in the last couple years swear by depends postpartum.

@crazydoglady: I have heard of people using depends but only on this board. @Canoli: do you use them in combination with the maxi pad things? Also do they come in different sizes?
ETA I am also curious how high they sit and if they would cover a c section incision and irritate it

@crazydoglady: I wore them for a few days after both of my deliveries. Maybe days 4-7 or so. They worked well but my butt broke out briefly both times. YMMV.

@Mrsbells: they come up higher so we’re great for my c section recovery. I believe they come in different sizes. I can’t exactly remember but I think initially I used a pad as well but then as the bleeding was less just used the Depends. Sorry the details are fuzzy since i’m 2 years pp and Mom brain

I did! I also wore a diaper to the hospital after my water broke. I don't know how to compare it to absorbancy as I only wore diapers then switched to pads but I thought they were way better coverage. I'm surprised its not more common. Maybe it is but people don't talk about it.

@Elizabear: I didn't even think about using them after your water breaks! I just wore my normal clothes and my leggings were soaked when I got to the hospital. Not sure why I didn't think of that!

Depends absolutely!! Now that I've discovered them for postpartum, I even wear them at night for my periods b/c my flow is heavy and I tend to leak even with the biggest pad (I don't use tampons overnight).
I've always just gotten the Target version and they were great for me both times postpartum! Esp with my 2nd since I probably didn't change as often as I should have.

I used them after #3 and wished I’d used them for my others! I used the Always brand, they were very comfortable. I would put a pad in the underwear and just change the pad if the underwear was still clean to cut down on how many pairs I went through.
ETA by underwear I mean diaper!

They were my favorite postpartum item. I think I used the Silhouette Depends?? They were so comfortable, discreet and not lumpy like a big pad. I only felt like I was wearing a "diaper" with the pad and mesh undies. The Depends just felt like normal underwear. The only bad thing is they are so expensive. Totally worth it to let me start feeling normal again, but it was not a cost-effective item.

I used depends and thought they worked great. Will do again. So much easier pulling on and taking off/tossing just one single item rather than dealing with a pad and the underwear, etc.

@crazydoglady: You're welcome! For some reason, before actually having my son, the idea was kind of embarrassing. But after, I was like, "Whatever it takes to maximize my time and comfort." My husband was even the one who bought them for me, because I didn't feel up to going to the store (for obvious reasons, haha). No shame, they were awesome

@Hypatia: @Mrsbells: I LOVED Depends after my vaginal birth. After my C-section, there was so much less bleeding out of my vagina that I found I didn't need Depends for nearly as long, so just went with mesh underwear + pads and it was fine. I did wear them a little bit and I don't recall them irritating my incision.

I used them with my second and got diaper rash.... but I have super sensitive skin. I also used the black kind so maybe the dyes caused extra irritation.
Side note... the diaper rash cream hospitals use is a million times better than Desitin.

@snowjewelz: Same! A friend suggested them for after I had my 2nd and I thought that was genius. And I also have to wear them at night for one or two nights of my period b/c the flow is crazy! Glad to hear I'm not alone.
I buy the Target brand and buy them online to help with the embarrassment. hahah
