@daniellemybelle: try it! It really is very easy, and practice makes perfect. Watch a few youtube videos and give it a try. Better to experiment now that she is too young to care or know any different!
All you do is put in little ponytails and braid the ends. I use whipped shea butter to seal it and the hair stays very moist.

@plantains: Can you show me some videos? I am not finding any good ones.
Is it dumb to take her to get her hair braided this young? Oh & DH informed me that braids are for summer not winter...? But I think a protective style would be good for this dry air.

@daniellemybelle: Chocolate Hair Vanilla Care is good. This is her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/rorychvc
I personally prefer the website though. I don't know if there is a tutorial for straight up braids, but there are a ton for easy cornrows. Theoretically one enjoys braids in the summer, but actually protective styling is a great way to keep moisture through the winter. I braid my hair all through the winter and then let the curls come out to play in the summer when they flourish in the humidity.

@daniellemybelle: Say what? Braids are a year-round hairstyle! You should learn! It's really simple once you pick it up!
@plantains: I love chocolate hair vanilla care--I've used it for myself! She has really great easy-to-follow tutorials.

@plantains: @mrsjazz: Y'all, I am scared to make it look dumb.
I am going to try though!
Do they sleep on the braids? Don't the rubber bands against their scalps hurt? I am not about to mess with STTN!
I've learned a ton about hair care from CHVC! But I am not a huge fan of a lot of the elaborate styles.
I would love to do a simple style like this!

@daniellemybelle: Start with something super simple, I bet it won't look dumb.
My LO's hair is still short, long enough to braid, but she still looks like she has a teeny afro. I don't use rubber bands in her hair anymore because I always had to cut them out, but that's because of her hair type, your LO should be fine with them. If you can do a style like above you won't need to put rubberbands in first.
When I do LO's braids they usually last 2-3 days only because she doesn't do the scarf or hair bonnet. If you can get your LO to wear one, or get satin pillowcases it should last longer.

@daniellemybelle: I think bands are used only on the ends, if at all. Very cute style. Off to the salon I would go too because I can't do a corn row or corn twist to save my life.

@daniellemybelle: I have to use goody ouchless bands to hold the bottom of DD's hair before braiding because the hair is too silky at the moment to hold the braid but if your DD's hair has good hold, you don't need to use the bands. Also two strand twists are sooooo easy, you should give them a try.
