Commiserate with me? I can't handle this race. I just want to hide my head in the sand until it's over and maybe sneak over and vote for Sanders. Haha. (I really have no idea, I just don't know what to say anymore). Anyone else?

Yes, for sure. I grew up republican and have been really debating issues critically for this race. I'm not really a fan of many of the GOP candidates. I don't agree with Sanders on a few big-ticket items, but overall I actually am liking him more than my other options.
I got my voter registration card and I have to register my party affiliation and I am conflicted, lol!

I feel like both sides are full of bad options. Where are the decent candidates?!?
grapefruit / 4321 posts
All we had to do was get ONE decent candidate and we had it in the bag. Somehow that has proven to be an impossible task.

@BandDmommy @Truth Bombs: it's so, so late. I think the party is still trying to woo Romney, though.

I'm a Democrat but surrounded by Republicans in my house (DH) and my family. I feel like so far both sides have been such a circus! We watch both parties debates, and I'm sorry for the Trump supporters, but I wish they would get that guy out of there so we can actually watch a debate that's not "made for TV' and focus on the actual topics at hand.

Ugh, yes, where is that one GOOD candidate? I can't even bear to watch much of the debates.

I can't even read about what is going on, it is too depressing. Overall I might finally vote democratic if republicans continue to ignore working family issues. Seriously, they act like we are still in the 50's and don't have to worry about maternity leave or child care. Not that the democrats are really doing anything about it either but at least they acknowledge the problems.

@Modern Daisy: that's one of my largest issues with the republican candidates. They have been quite sexist lately and not very supportive of families.
And while I am very pro-life, I don't see banning abortion as true reform - I'd like a candidate that focuses instead on ways to decrease the amount of abortions by increasing access, resources, education, etc. And honestly, I bet that nearly any democrat would argue that they want the same thing, decrease the number of abortions.

Yes - I feel pretty hopeless . Feeling fairly depressed about the prospect of any candidate on either side winning. Circus is definitely the word. Also hoping for a dark horse.

Agree... this reminded me to take the quiz at "ISideWith.com"

I think Rand is decent. Not as consistent as his father, but still better than the others by a long mile.

I'm a Democrat but from a family of Republicans and they feel the same way though some like Ben Carson.
John McCain and Mitt Romney look aaaaaamazing compared to the current line-up. And honestly I would be easily swayed to voting for one of them if Hilary is the nominee and that's saying something because I'm a big time liberal.

I'm Republican and I'm okay with many of the candidates. I'm so curious how a Republican finds him/herself enticed by Bernie Sanders, a self-described "democratic SOCIALIST".

I'm independent and have voted many ways in the past. I hated Romney last election but he would be a total dream amongst this pool. The GOP looks like a total joke right now.

@Mrs. Pen: I'm a democrat, but I agree with you re abortion. It's basically a call to arms for both sides. The right and left can both get their bases riled up whenever they need to (like the PP videos). I'd rather step away from the debate (the legality of abortion certainly isn't going to change) and focus on things that really can be changed. Like maternity leave, affordable daycare, ending the stigma of single parenting, sex education, educating and empowering women, health care, etc.

@daniellemybelle: If Clinton is the democratic candidate I will FOR SURE be voting republican
@jedeve: I had found a study once that was interesting. It showed that the numbers of abortion that are performed each year were consistent with the number of abortions prior to the legalization of the procedure. It really opened my eyes that if it were banned, there would be a higher incidence of illegal abortions and decreased access to high quality care. Nobody wants that. I think better sex education programs, access to birth control, reducing stigma of pregnancy - like you mentioned, increased access and education regarding adoption services and pregnancy resources, etc.
Maternity leave is another big ticket item, which is a huge reason why I do like Bernie Sanders. He has an action plan for this and realizes why it's important. He also wants higher quality daycares, access to preschools, etc.
It's hard to be torn between two parties - identifying with the stances on one side, but a completely different set on the other side. There really is no middle ground. So I just have to pick and choose what is most important to me and that's really difficult.

@Mrs. Pen: It's really nice to hear a conservative acknowledge this reality. I'm a liberal, and I don't love abortion, but it exists. It can be safe and regulated, or it can be dangerously unsafe. Buy it will always exist.

Ugh – I totally agree. There is no way I could ever vote for either Sanders or Hilary but the Republican candidates just don't look any good either. It's been pretty frustrating to be a Republican lately.
Regarding abortion, while morally I might disagree with it, I would never in one million years argue that it should be banned. That said, people that say they would never vote Republican because of their stance on abortion also bother me. Because I don't see the laws regarding abortions ever been changed. The Supreme Court is not going to reverse Roe vs Wade.

@Mrs. Pen: I'm a democrat (or apparently democratic socialist since the quiz says I agree with Sanders 99%!), and VERY pro-choice, and I still totally agree that the focus needs to change to preventing unwanted pregnancies, and providing resources to help pregnant women in tough circumstances, rather than just zeroing in on whether abortion is legal and up to what point it should be. Everyone pretty much agrees that they want to decrease the abortion rates, so why is that so hard?

@mediagirl: My very republican dad told me he's voting for Bernie Sanders with me this year.
@Mrs. Pen: I read this article yesterday and I thought it was pertinent to your point. http://time.com/4118323/texas-home-abortions/ Making abortion illegal doesnt stop abortions... it stops SAFE abortions. Education and access to birth control would go a lot further. I made this argument to a good friend who was majorly pro-life and she said it was eye-opening to her too.
