Any bees made a ssc? I borrowed a kinderpack from my baby wearing club and love it but my husband said no way to 200 for a carrier. I can sew and found a pattern but I'm curious if anyone had made one and how much work it was?

Yes! I just made my first (attached) last week and am finishing up my second tonight (it's totally addictive). The first one will take you the longest amount of time by far, especially if you haven't done a similar project before. I had never worked with webbing and foam and really heavy-duty materials, so I went very slowly. I think my first took me about 10-12 hours and my second maybe 5? If you're an experienced sewist, you'll definitely be way faster than me! It was totally worth it for me and I love that I get to carry my toddler in something I made that fits both of us perfectly.

@hony bologna: yours is gorgeous! Did you buy a pattern? I'm still debating if I can pull it off without one or not
Eta I'm also glad to hear you feel like it came out as a perfect fit! That's one of my main concerns, that it won't be a crazy good fit

@MamaBear87: Thank you so much! Yes, I bought the Sew Toot pattern, which is quite similar to the Tula:
http://www.sewtootpatterns.com/product/basic-edition-the-little-pick-me-up-ssc-baby-carrier-pattern/
I'm a beginner sewist, so I really liked the photo tutorial and explanations of all the different options you could choose for the carrier. I think the best part about this pattern though is the FB support group for those who buy it. There's a ton of info on a ridiculous number of mods (including on how to make it like a KP with the mesh panel) and people are super helpful if you run into any roadblocks. The carrier I'm finishing up is actually a Connecta-style one and I'm planning to do a half-buckle ring tai next.
I think especially if you're an experience sewist, you could definitely pull it off without a pattern, but you'd probably save a bunch of time with one. The carriers I'm making are actually a hybrid of a few patterns that I made to get the perfect fit, but it was nice not to have to figure out everything from scratch. If you don't want to buy one, maybe you could use a free one as a base? This tutorial links to a free pattern (and the tutorial's good too!):

That's the pattern I've been considering. Since it now has a real life review I'll probably just pick it up. I could go without but fabric is so expensive these days and it will cut down on mistakes.
If you don't me being nosy where did you buy supplies and material? I've found a few likely places but looking for cheapest so I can cut down on costs a bit. Happy to share my finds if you'd like

@hony bologna: So, I have a woven wrap that I don't really use...would this be suitable for the pattern? I LOVE my Ergo but my toddler doesn't fit in it very well anymore.

@avivoca: I haven't bought the pattern yet but my understanding is yes you can make a wrap conversion with it.

@MamaBear87: The FB group is also fantastic for sourcing ideas, but I'll list some I like below. I'd love to hear your ideas as well!
Webbing + buckles:
Allielane in Abbyville (she actually has kits specifically for the pattern):

Strapworks.com
Fabric:
So many different options, but so far I've gotten twill and duck from JoAnn (I would not recommend the latter), wrap fabric by the yard from Colimaçon et Cie, and a wrap scrap from Marsupial Mamas.
Foam:
High-density foam and batting from JoAnn
Closed cell foam from Amazon, though I'm told this one from Walmart is very good:

@avivoca: Absolutely! Lots of people have done it in the group as well, so there's a lot of support there.

@hony bologna: thanks for the tips. Yeah I'm worth you about joanns, not my fav. Not sure where your located but hobby lobby is a bit better if you have one, if you can find a sewing machine/vacuum shop even better. They usually have classes and knowledgeable ladies as well. And much nicer fabric!
I've been eyeing the wrap fabric, but with the conversion to dollars not sure I can justify the cost. Plus we live in az so I'm really looking for as cool as possible. I'm maybe going to go with linen actually, I think it will give it an interesting look and be cool. Going fabric shopping today so well see what u end up with.
I'm in love with this but not positive if enough will show with the koolnit panel (see pic)
Will update as I get deeper into this crazy project!

No Hobby Lobby near me, unfortunately, but I do want to check out a few little boutique fabric shops...
I know, the wraps are ridiculously expensive! I know a lot of people use Mahogany tablecloths instead, which are much more affordable - they're 100% cotton, woven, and really pretty. I'm planning on making a half-buckle ring tai with one next.
That is a lovely fabric! I'd love to see what you come up with, please post pics!

Bought the pattern finally. Now just waiting to be added to the fb group....
I'm also probably using linen instead of canvas and dyeing it, so that should be an adventure.
I'll for sure post pics! Would love to see what you come up with as well!
