My LO has a terrible scrape on her nose. It looks awful! Is there anything I can put on it to prevent scarring?

They make a children's mederma you could try. Or maybe just rub some vit e oil on it.

A friend's son needed 20 stitches on his face for a cut and 6 months later the Mederma Kids has worked wonders. You can still see it but it has healed/faded so well.

Just a heads up, I recently got a scratch on my face (from my cat) and was also doing a lot of research to figure out how to prevent scarring, and I read vitamin e is no longer recommended. I talked to my dermatologist, and he said the best thing you can do is keep it moist with something like vaseline or any generic petroleum jelly and keep it covered. Hope this helps!
ETA: For me, since I don't want to wear a big bandaid on my face at work, I've been keeping vaseline with me to reapply and keep moist at all times, and then putting bandaids on when I get home. Also, once it starts healing, sunscreen is vital. Sun can make scars darker.

Have you tried emu oil? It sounds odd, but I swear it helped heal my daughter's scars so quickly!

We use mederma, but my dr said that the pediatric plastic surgeons she consults with said it's the act of rubbing/contact/routine pressure when applying a cream or lotion that actually does the healing to reduce scarring. She said aquaphor probably would work the same, but I thought that was interesting!

My stepson got a big gash on his forehead last summer that required stitches. We did vitamin E oil and made sure it was not exposed to sunlight (hat/bandaid/sunscreen) and it healed up really nicely!

Mederma or vit E oil would be my best guess. I think the most important thing is to keep sunscreen on it if you live where its still sunny and hot because the sun always darkens my scars.

Mederma worked for her bad scrape under her nose and on her upper lip, plus use sunscreen cuz sun will cause it to discolor and get dark.

Our ped told us Mederma, but only after it was fully healed. Also lots of sun protection. It's amazing how quickly and how well baby/toddler skin heals up!

@Sparkler: This is exactly what we were told when DS had 11 stitches back in May. He's not a fan of us rubbing his "boobie" but we try to massage it at least once a day when he's in the bath. It's looking SO much better lately.

@Sparkler: I tried rubbing it today when applying sunscreen but apparently it's still ouchie so she screamed! Oops!
