I'm in. I need to start with baby steps. If I order lunch it must be a salad and I'm going to walk outside twice/day.

    Thanks for the motivation!

I'll join - i had been really good for about 1.5 years but then i had an injury that sidelined me from my favourite workouts and well, you know, cookies, ice cream and beer.

It's roughly 5lbs for me, but i know it's a matter of being mindful of my snacking and getting back into a workout routine.

Last night i actually only ate 4 chips from DH's bowl - i didn't say, "oh screw it" and join him in finishing it off!

    This month my goals are:
    1. track macros (why does that sound so much better than track calories? :D)
    2. mindful or no late night snacking
    3. workout 4-5x per week

@lamariniere: i look up workouts and write them on a sheet or paper (or take a pic on my iphone) and follow. I am super self conscious but i notice other girls at the gym have books/notebooks with them, so i tell myself i shouldn't be so chicken!

@RonjaL7: baby steps are key!! but I also think the baby steps can make a big difference too

@gestalt: tracking macros sounds so official... like you suddenly became a trained physical trainer

Day 2: I ate a healthier breakfast and lunch. Only had 1 regular Mt dew and walked twice. But I was starving at 230 so I had another packet of oatmeal!

    How is everyone else?

Was a crazy day so on the bright side, not much time to snack. On the down side, grabbed crap for lunch.

Then, without going into details, someone said something to me this evening that made me feel like crap about myself and my weight. Trying really hard to brush it off and get over it....or use it as motivation.

Yesterday was awful! I ate a ton of leftover sweets from my birthday, but they’re gone now at least.

Today was much better. I stuck to my calories! And drank plenty of water. But I’ve been crazy bloated all day from eating a bunch of junk yesterday.

First day of shark week so felt achy and gross, with a headache to boot. BUT it also meant I finally got rid of the horrible water weight that I’d been bloated with the last 10 days. I also had indigestion or food poisoning last night and puked a bunch too, sooooo my weight was down this morning.

I ate okay in terms of my carbs today but my calories were probably a bit high. However I basically didn’t eat anything yesterday (or didn’t keep anything down) so I’m fine with it. I got in 40 minutes on the treadmill tonight too, so I have to count it as a successful day.

I’m totally down! I went dress shopping recently as was completely disgusted with myself! Any tips and support would be great.

I’m gonna start T25 again but it really does work wonders it’s just so hard to get motivated to do it daily.

Day 3: it's weds and I'm starting to drag as I usually do as the week goes on. Ugh, it's just so tiring to work full time, commute 1 hr each way and have 2 kids.. it's 849 am and I've already downed my "limit" in mt dew.. if I have any more i'll have diet.

But I did have oat meal for breakfast and I still plan to walk today... so we'll see ...

I didn’t eat as healthy yesterday as I probably should be, but I have done 2 DVD’s and 1 yoga this week, plus lots of walking. I’m feeling good though I know it’ll be a while till my weight starts changing.

My in-laws are arriving today and staying for a month. So I will be enjoying lots of Korean food soon! I will go very easy on the rice, and my MIL will chide me. Haha, at least I don’t have to cook too much this month!

@Ajsmommy: I hear ya... Wednesdays are always the worst. and the commute was BRUTAL today! WHY.... Hope your day is going well! On wednesdays I workout in the evenings with a group of friends and we all text each other to make sure we do it - so that's a good motivator!

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

@hellobeeboston: that sounds just like what I need.. however, I managed to stick to my "healthy" meal for lunch and I've gotten in my two walks. I did have a diet dew with lunch and I'm having one now to make it through the last part of work so those are bad... .but still some improvement!

    honeydew / 7235 posts

@Ajsmommy: Awesome!! That's great, definite improvement!

my only problem is that I know I'm working out tonight so I made a BAD lunch choice, thinking I'll burn it off later

I TRY to do intermittent fasting (basically where you eat all your calories in a limited window - like within 6-8 hours), so today I was able to go until almost 1pm without eating (other than water and black coffee and diet soda). I stopped eating last night around 7pm, so that's 17 hours, woot! Night snacking is my down fall.

I ate steamed broccoli and leftover tri-tip for lunch with a Diet Pepsi. I'm hoping to do a kettlebell workout for arms tonight and some squats.

The plan for dinner is steak Cobbs using the rest of my tri-tip leftovers.

@gingerbebe: wow, good job on your fasting!! I've never tried it.

Day 4: whoot whoot down 1/2 lb on the scale this morning. I know
    1. it's not much
    2. I probably shouldn't weigh every day.. but I do

but I am happy to see some progress. At least it will keep me going.

how's everyone else coming along?? sticking to plans? got new plans? having success?

@Ajsmommy: I did really good yesterday, but am starting off this morning with an amazing blueberry scone. whoops! lol But, I have a healthy lunch and snacks packed for the day. I also didn't work out last night and really should have, so will try my best to do it tonight.

@Ajsmommy: I am totally get you on the weighing yourself frequently thing. I do it about every 3 days. Honestly, though, for me, it is more about how my clothes are fitting. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, I couldn't wear my black pants at work because it literally hurt to button them. That day, I had to resort to wearing my maternity black pants But, yesterday, I was able to wear them and they didn't hurt wearing them! I still have work to do because I definitely have fluff that needs to be tamed. lol But, at least I saw progress!!!

  22. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

@NorthStar: that is the best feeling when your pants don't hurt anymore!! I am shooting for that too.

Well I did terrible yesterday. I did work out in the morning, and got my 10k steps, but we took the boys bowling after work and I mindlessly ate my whole personal sized pizza... womp. Oh well, today is a new day...

@Ajsmommy: I weigh myself every day and use a website that turns those daily readings into a running average of your actual weight https://trendweight.com/ For me its a lot more motivating that wondering what is caused by daily fluctuations and what's actually going on with my weight. Like I weighed in 2.5 lbs heavier today but I know I didn't *really* gain 2.5 lbs just from eating a personal pizza.

@gingerbebe: I try to fast at least 12-14 hours each day. Usually it looks like breakfast at 8:30/9, with dinner sometime around 6:30pm the night before. Some days I do better than others and eat dinner like at 6, then not have breakfast until 930. Usually it depends on my morning meeting schedule.

@Ajsmommy: I weight myself every day, I know I shouldnt but I do. Oh well!

Got my period this week - which is always a struggle. Tried not to weight myself M or Tues bc I could tell I was bloated. I drank green tea twice a day and focused on low sodium to control the bloat.

I am down about 1.5lbs in the last 10 days, so I am real happy with that given it was that time of month. Work was a pain this week so I missed two workouts - I made up for it by keeping my eating as flawless as I could.

@Ajsmommy: 1/2 lb is great! I don't think we should worry about the scale moving too much, especially over 3 days. I'm down net 1/2 lb this morning as well, so i'm pretty happy. I just got back from a boot camp class and i'm dying. DYING.

@Mrs D: The key is diet so that's awesome you were able to keep up a good diet despite work stress and your period!

Scale is still up because #sharkweek, but I know I'm doing everything right, so let's hope things drop back down in a few days.

I got a new fancy scale in the mail that I snagged on a deal - hope it works okay. I have been using the same digital scale forever and I'm sorta worried the new scale is going to say I'm way heavier than I am! But it also tells you your body fat, which I'm curious about (yes I know they aren't super accurate, but I don't have the time and money to go get a DEXA scan every few months).

Having more black coffee this morning and I was successful at avoiding night snacking last night (although I realized afterwards that I ate a bite of meat while I was prepping my lunch for today!)

Lunch is going to be beef jalapeno cheddar sausage with broccoli, to which I can add some ranch dressing or cheese if I feel like it. I also have snacks at my desk if I get hungry. I'm really trying to fast in the mornings and eat 2 meals, 1 snack, and like 1 dessert/treat type thing (right now I'm eating about 1-2 pieces of dark chocolate on a typical night). Oh, and I don't fast on the weekends - its just easier to be regimented during the work week.

I did some meal prepping last night. I hardboiled another 6 eggs in the Instant Pot, sauteed up a package of sausage, washed and cut some broccoli, and set some meat out to thaw. I usually just cook and cube up a big piece of meat and eat off it for a few days. I finished my tri-tip last night, so it looks like I'm having sausage, pork chops, ground beef, and some steak the next few days.

Didn't get the kettlebells or squats done yesterday, but I did heft 40lb bags of salt, so maybe that counts for something? I'll probably end up doing a run tonight.

Has anyone tried making a savory oatmeal with chicken broth and vegetables?

I can't look at another egg right now, and I love steel cut oats with fruit and no added sugar, but I am thinking I could use vegetables instead of fruit to change things up. My weight loss stalls when I eat too much fruit, so I feel like this could be a reasonable solution.

@looch: Are you looking for breakfast? I go through phases where I cant tolerate eggs any more so I have some ideas...

In general though, I think the idea sounds interesting. I do something similar with quinoa so not sure why you couldn't do it with oatmeal?!

  33. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@looch: I actually ate oatmeal as like a congee replacement a lot in the past (when I ate carbs). I'd cook oats and beat in an egg or egg white while it was still hot (you cannot taste it if its just an egg white) and then eat it with a splash of soy sauce, sriracha, and green onions. You can definitely cook it with chicken broth if you want to. I also did plain oatmeal, topped with breakfast sausage, a fried egg, cheese, jalapenos and hot sauce, kinda like a grits bowl.

  34. looch

    wonderful pear / 26210 posts

@Mrs D: yes, I need something that isn't eggs for breakfast. I like steel cut oats and I can prepare it the night before, so I was thinking instead of fruit, why not zucchini or grape tomatoes? I could also do quinoa, I don't know why I didn't think of that!

@gingerbebe: I like the idea of treating it like a grits bowl, thank you.

  35. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@looch: gotcha. I think your idea has potential. I also like @gingerbebe: 's idea!

Here are some non-egg, or not plain egg things I like:
    -Steel cut oats, plain
-Mocha Shake (chocolate protein shake w/ coffee)
-Egg cups (eggs, but maybe diff?) w veggies, sausage, whatever!
-Protein Pancakes (1 banana, 2 eggs, 1/2 C oats, 2T flax, 1 T chia, 1 Scoop protein powder) - I top these with nut butter
-Siggis 0% yogurt topped with Purely Elizabeth granola

Happy Mother's Day all!! I hope you had an enjoyable weekend. I sure did.. however.... I ate some really bad (but good) things! LOL

like for example.. I had cheesecake for lunch yesterday.. yeah, just cheesecake

Anyhoo, I am back on the grind today. I'll be trying to get my walking in, even though it's raining and i'll have oatmeal for breakfast.

@looch: I made my own granola recently so that I could control the sugar (it’s oatmeal, coconut chips, almonds or whatever nuts I have, maple syrup and coconut oil). I eat it with Greek yogurt for breakfast.

Has anyone tried http://www.mommastrong.com/programs/ ? I’m interested in their core workout and the diastasis recti program. It seems very affordable but I haven’t read the fine print. I’m curious if anyone has tried it?

@Ajsmommy: Ya, I def took some liberties this weekend...like 3 glasses of wine on Saturday - it was soooooo yummy! Yesterday I treated myself to my longest run since I had my first daughter...it felt good to push myself! Sore as shit today!

I'm not weighing in this AM - I will on Wednesday to give myself time to recover from the weekend!

    How was everyone elses Weekend?

@lamariniere: I finally found a granola I can use without being loaded full of sugar - Purely Elizabeth. Before that I made my own as well - which was easy I just found it hard to make a small enough batch.

I also had a fantastic weekend in general, but not for my weight. Well, I assume... my scale is broken so now I'm very frustrated and trying to figure out if it can be fixed or if we have to buy a new one.

This period was not kind to my attempts to lose weight... I ate so much sugar, and drank so much Dr. Pepper the last 5 days. It doesn't help that we went from winter to summer and somehow skipped spring so it's been harder to get the walks in. This weeks starts a fresh attempt.
