@Sams Mom: idk if you’re open to diet sodas, but there’s this diet soda called Dr. Pepper 10 that only has ten calories per can and I absolutely love it! To me it tastes very close to regular Dr Pepper.
I am on day 6 of intermittent fasting and I really love it! It was much easier for my body to adjust to than I thought it would be, plus it makes it so much more likely for me to drink enough water. It’s the motivation I need to drop my calories to 1200! I’ve been doing pretty well on 1300 for the last two weeks, so I’m feeling great about lowering 100. I also have the caveat that I eat a cheat meal about once a week. So my calories always average out to being a very slow weight loss, which I’m fine with! I’m finding this eating very sustainable and I’m feeling so great about meeting my goals (at this pace I’ll be hitting my ultimate goal weight by my birthday next year!) (like a 20lb loss over 10ish months - I’m going slow because I’m lazy and short, lol!).
I crazy overate on Saturday (I had like six slices of pizza! And two brownies!). When I totaled my calories I was at double what my diet calories are. So this week’s a wash for me! But Sunday I did amazing. I went for a run and did some uphill sprints (which I love!).
We hung around the house until 1ish and then my husband took the kids to his mom’s and I just stayed home and went shopping. I made myself a giant plate of stir fry with noodles and veg and fermented black bean paste (which I love but it gives my husband bad heartburn so I don’t eat it too much). Then I ate like 3/4 of a pint of Halo Top ice cream.

@newlypregnantlady: I had actually quit soda almost entirely, until last week. I never buy it to keep at the house, and only drink it if I eat out (1-2 times a week), but the grocery store had a 12 pack on sale for $2.49... so it came home with me
Thanks for the suggestion though, because a couple times a year I totally binge soda, and that will probably help with the calories when I do.

I did pretty well this weekend, even though the scale is technically up. We had our 2 year old's birthday party and Mother's Day, so we essentially entertained from Friday night through Sunday morning. I just ate at different times from everyone (which isn't hard to do when you're entertaining and have 2 toddlers to wrangle). I'd either eat before or after everyone and just eat my own food.
We had a big salad bar on Friday night, so that made things easy. Then on Saturday morning, I made everyone pancakes, eggs, and sausage and ate some low-carb pancakes I had stashed in the freezer for my own breakfast. I just ate a pile of leftover steak and sausage for lunch and ordered Chinese takeout for DS' party. I made some stirfry of my own and ate a wedge of low carb cake I made myself a few days prior and had stashed in the fridge.
Sunday I ate lowcarb lemon poundcake for my Mother's Day brunch, made a spinach and steak scramble for myself later for brunch, and then had a protein bar for dinner while furiously running around doing errands late last night.
I've been eating "intuitively" as an experiment the last 2 weeks. I'm pretty proud in that I haven't gained weight per se, outside the normal fluctuations, and I seem to be eating the right things and generally the right amounts. But I don't think I'm going to be able to LOSE weight this way, so I'm going to return to tracking 4 days a week with intermittent fasting and then eat intuitively Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

There is a cake in the pantry at work, my favorite yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and it is taking everything I have right now to not take a slice.

May I join? I am not looking to lose 5-10 lbs since I am pregnant, but I am hoping to not gain 5-10 lbs this month. I have gained WAY too much weight and am hoping to slow it down by eating less fast food and not allowing my husband to buy Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Basically, eat a lot cleaner.
Today's meal plans--
breakfast-- turkey sausage egg bake
snack-- banana
lunch-- kale salad with pork tenderloin and grapes
snack--almonds, cheese, and carrots
dinner-- shrimp and chicken sausage foil packets
dessert-- couple squares of dark chocolate

I WAS SO BAD THIS WEEKEND... Yikes. I basically ate a full pizza. twice. BUT, on the plus side, I did about 13,500 steps on Saturday and 11,000 yesterday, so here's hoping that counter-balanced at least one pizza. ha.
But it was a fantastic weekend, so there's that.... happy mothers day to all of you!

@looch: YIKES.... but perhaps it was made with eggs that had salmonella, did you hear about that in the news? i'd assume those are bad eggs
pear / 1881 posts
@hellobeeboston: lol - good idea on the bad eggs for that cake! haha maybe that will keep her away Holiday weekends are HARD to eat well!! At least you had a ton of steps to hopefully offset some of the pizza?
I didn't do too horrible, except didn't really eat dinner on Saturday night. DD had her dance recital, so we fed the kids dinner before we went, but we didn't have time to eat. So, after we got them to bed, I had multigrain chips w cheese and salsa and then an ice cream sandwich (all at like 8pm)! But, I did decent yesterday with the food. I didn't work out all weekend, though, which I had wanted to. I'll try to get back into that tonight.
I was able to prep 4 lunches for this week: a quinoa/butternut squash salad, a healthy chicken salad sandwich mix and plantains fried in coconut oil. I find that prepping at least a few meals helps me stay away from eating out. I also brought a cup of cottage cheese, a banana, and an apple.

@Sams Mom: oh i totally get soda addiction! I don’t drink it frequently but I do love soda.
I love to see everyone’s updates. Just in the time we’ve been posting this I’m having an easier time and I think it’s because articulating a plan keeps me on track.

@newlypregnantlady: same... Talking about it and reading others posts helps me stay focused and on task. I'm not doing perfectly but checking in daily is really helping

So, we had an awesome Aria wifi scale that I loved until it started acting up the past few weeks and then the other day just completely failed. Basically it wasn't doing a good job of sensing when we stepped off, but no reason for me to 2nd guess our weight measurements. I got our old digital scale back out of storage until we can fix/replace it and I weighed in at 2lbs lighter. DH also said his was a bit lighter than what he's been seeing. Now I don't know what to believe! We did some tests with some hand weights and the digital scale seems to be accurate. So now I wonder if the 5lbs I thought I put on due to stopping breastfeeding is half that and half a dying scale. So confused!

Well yesterday was just an ok day. I wasn't able to get out and walk like I wanted... getting slammed with work. But I ate an ok breakfast and an ok lunch and for my afternoon snack I had apple slices.
I'm hoping today is better. I just ate my oatmeal breakfast...

@Ajsmommy: I find that managing your diet for the day balances out not walking or working out. I had some kid sized gummies and an ice cream bar last night but i just got back from an intense conditioning work out. I'll manage my snacking a little better today and drink lots of water. How's the dew diet going?
pomegranate / 3355 posts
@gestalt: I've completely converted to diet dew and I've cut back. I'm hoping in the next week or two maybe I'll see something come of it

Today I hit the 30 day mark before my big event so it's game time! I'm going to try no sugar, no fries, no red meat, and no soda until the event. Fingers crossed I can do it.

@bubblegum: Good luck!!! if you have trouble with giving up fries, I fried plantains in coconut oil on Sunday night and they seriously taste like fries! But, I believe they are a healthy carb, like sweet potatoes. They were delicious.
I didn't work out last night. ugh. I feel a cold coming on and so, I laid in bed and watched netflix. Hopefully, I can get the energy to do so tonight.

@NorthStar: Are they healthy?! I usually bake mine so if it's healthy, I am going to have to try that. Thanks girl
pear / 1881 posts
@bubblegum: i think so?! Coconut oil is a healthy fat, so if you fry them in that, I can't imagine it being unhealthy (versus using vegetable oil). Plantains in themselves are healthy too and I've seen them on paleo websites. It literally took me like 5 minutes to do.

First day back to tracking after my 2 weeks off was successful, but hard. I got a new scale - the Eufy smart scale - and based on the stats it gave me about my body fat percentage and lean body mass, I went ahead and readjusted my macros, which had me eating about 100 calories less per day. SO not only did I have to track everything again, but I had to eat less, so that was kinda annoying. I did stop eating around 7pm, so yay to no night snacking.
I usually stick to a 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carb ratio, but since I'm still transitioning back, I'm upping my fats a bit today and possibly tomorrow as well so I stop feeling snacky/hungry and buckle down into my new macros successfully. Instead of black coffee, I had coffee with some Nutpods unsweetened creamer and MCT oil this morning and I have some lowcarb meatloaf leftovers with broccoli for lunch. I packed 1 slice of lowcarb lemon pound cake for snack if I need it later and we're going to take DS2 out to Japanese for dinner tonight for his birthday so mama is gonna eat ALLLLLLL the sashimi.
@Ajsmommy: Great job on switching to Diet Dew. I prefer the taste of diet soda over regular soda (I'm weird), but Diet Dew is like my favorite. I get so pumped when I go to the gas station or Sam's Club and can get a giant frosty one on crushed ice in a terrible for the environment but ice cold styrofoam cup!
kiwi / 556 posts
@NorthStar: @bubblegum: my favorite thing is potatoes (or sweet potatoes) sliced thin and baked in the oven with zero oil! You have to watch because they’ll burn fast but they come out crunchy and delicious! I love it because I’m counting calories but idk if you need the oil for your macros.
@gingerbebe: love sashimi!!
@Ajsmommy: getting over switching to diet soda was huge for me. Because i really have a bad snacking habit and calorie free/ lowcal drinks make my life so much easier.
I had too much coffee this morning and so my adrenaline is going nuts!
pear / 1881 posts
@newlypregnantlady: I love sweet potatoes that way too! They are SOO delicious.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Mrs D: Its just like a thicker almond/coconut milk that's unsweetened, but they do have like vanilla or hazelnut flavors or whatever. I don't buy them unless they are on sale. Honestly, I think the unsweetened almond cashew milk from Silk works just as well - its very thick and creamy - and you get a whole half gallon! I get that people sweat NutPods because its Whole30 compliant, but if you're not Whole30, I don't really see why its so important!

Guys.. I'm pretty sure the scale said I'm down 2 lbs this morning!!! I can't be 100% sure bc it was a crazy morning and I stepped on, noted it, felt happy and then quickly got diverted by the kiddos.
I am heading out of town tonight for a conference so I plan to eat a healthy lunch and healthy snack and then "try" to eat ok at the dinner tonight but I can't promise I won't be a little bad!!
nectarine / 2460 posts
@Ajsmommy: Awesome! Congrats! I can never eat healthy on work travel, but if its just a day hopefully it won't be too bad
With my new scale, my weight has stayed lower than it had been on my old scale and going down little by little over the week which nice. I'm going out of town to a wedding this weekend and I know it's going to be bad. Mostly because myself and most of my friends cannot stand the guy our friend is marrying so there will probably be a lot of alcohol consumed to get through the weekend...
kiwi / 556 posts
@Ajsmommy: wow awesome!
I also had a whoosh this morning! Down 3lbs from yesterday. I typically have 1-2lb daily fluctuations so I expect to wake up tomorrow at least +2, but after 10 days of a plateau I’m feeling pretty great! I even made a decently high sodium dinner with a lot of carbs (stir fried noodles and veg, plus ground turkey!).
@JennyPenny: I’ve got a kid birthday party to go to this weekend so I’m not looking forward to the temptations of pizza, cookies, and cake! Last weekend I overate a ton of pizza and it’s one of those foods I have a huge weakness for! Even bad pizza!
I’m hoping to stay pretty trim for a wedding I have coming up in a couple weeks so I really don’t want to overdue it during the birthday. The wedding is catered by the best restaurant in town so I really am thinking about that as my next big break.
nectarine / 2460 posts
Woohoo! Down 3 lbs since a week ago (2 of which occurred with the scale switch) I crushed it yesterday- did a workout dvd, yoga, 15k steps, and ate healthy so I’m feeling great. Now I just need to carry that into this weekend

@Ajsmommy: @newlypregnantlady: @JennyPenny: Great job ladies!!
My scale is wonky, so i have no idea if i gained weight or lost 2 lbs! But i've worked out 4x this week, and look forward to my workouts - progress!
kiwi / 556 posts
@gestalt: awesome! I love how working out always seems to make you want to keep working out, it’s awesome.
@JennyPenny: yay! That’s awesome!
I’m up +1lb today, which is a typical fluctuation for me. I’ve been looking around for an affordable shirtsleeve rash guard with a zipper (so I can nurse) and I’m having a hell of a time finding one! The best option I’ve found so far is a long sleeved one off amazon, which I’ll take because zero stores around me seem to carry rash guards! I went to an outlet mall and a regular mall and I found a single $80 rash guard. I’ll have to see if I can find an REI or something around me.
My plan for today is to keep up the intermittent fasting (I call it that but for me it’s really just “skip breakfast and eat an early dinner”).
And I think I’ll make rice bowls for dinner! Yum.
pear / 1881 posts
@JennyPenny: Great job!! What an amazing feeling that must be!
I was up a pound today. We ate out for dinner last night as it was our dauther's last dance class. I also didn't work out since I wanted to watch Grey's Anatomy. lol. But, I'll work out tonight and have eaten fairly healthy today.
nectarine / 2460 posts
How did everyone do over the weekend?
We were out of town for a friend's wedding and I ate and drank way too much, but I'm happy to see that I was only up half a lb when I got back. But now it's crunch time. The wedding in Turks and Caicos is 4 weeks away!
pomegranate / 3355 posts
@JennyPenny: I didn't weigh this morning but I did yesterday and it was ok, even after kind of bad eating on my night away/road trip for work! I will weigh tomorrow again. I wanted to give myself a day to "sync up" and get back to normal.
I brought a diet lunch but I might go out instead. we'll see.

I had another bad weekend where I just mindlessly ate anxiously at a family gathering. I’m up another lb but still down for the week so far, yay! I really need to push water today because I didn’t drink nearly enough water yesterday (neither family event I went to had enough water, I should have just brought a bottle).
Today’s a new day! I had horrible indigestion when I woke up so I did have a banana for breakfast but I’ve already got a good plan for dinner (Asian lettuce wraps with mushroom and cabbage), and I’ll have a good light lunch with raw veg snack.
I hope everyone else is doing great!

@Ajsmommy: I do this too sometimes! I’ve been known to go up like 8lb in water weight from eating Hawaiian BBQ. I love it but so salty!

Day 4 of keto and I'm down 4.6 pounds. Granted, most of that is probably water weight, but I'm still happy about it.
I have a joint disease, and eating is kind of my coping mechanism. It's been hard not to turn to carbs when I'm in pain. I keep telling myself that I'll have less pain when I'm 40 pounds lighter.
