Long before I was pregnant my friend asked her mom to be there during delivery, and my mom told me she wouldn't want to be in there. She told me that again after I was pregnant. It was fine with me, I just wanted DH in there anyway.
But I do know that if I really wanted or needed her there she'd be there. And I'm sure she'd love every second of it

Mine. I had no interest in having her in there and she felt the same way. We both feel like it's a private time between the husband and wife (oh and all those doctors and nurses...)
BUT, like you, if I wanted or needed her there, she would be there in a heartbeat.

@mediagirl: ditto, in fact that's exactly what my mom said when I asked her if she wanted to be in the room during labor/delivery. She kind of laughed and was like "Umm, no. That's a private moment between you and R!" She was in the waiting room asking the nurses how everything was going every 5 minutes though

When I was pregnant with DS1 people kept telling me I was wrong for not wanting my mom in the room (during pushing, I was ok with others seeing me before that) and my mom was the one to tell me she did not want to be there because it's a special time for me and my SO, not me, my SO and her. I was so glad she felt that way! Because no matter what I was kicking her out before the pushing happened. Haha. With DS2 I wanted her to be with us to help with DS1, but again...not during the pushing.

My mom was with me for the whole thing and now she says she will never do it again for any of my future births! It was just too much for her to see me in pain apparently.

However, now that I've been through it once, I would love for her to be there during any future births, but like @anutka, she says she doesn't want to because she doesn't think she could handle seeing me in pain.

We weren't planning on having my mom there for the delivery. I asked her to come in the room just to say hi at one point during my labor. She kept quiet and it was nice to have her there. All the sudden I had the feeling I had to push, a million people ran in the room and, of course, my mom was still there. She was thrilled and of course we didn't care by that point.
