DH has a business trip there the last week of May..
We fly for free and we're allowed to extend the trip passed the 2 days that he is required to be there for meetings. So, we're trying to make a fun vacation of it since we're there anyways!
Anything fun to do there? LO will be 8 months old.
Zoos?
Restaurants?
ETA: We will be at the Nike headquarters... wherever that is.

I know there are some AWESOME restaurants there, and there's a huge bookstore I really love but currently can't remember the name of.
As far as family-friendly stuff, I don't know. I've only been there once.

I live here sweetie! I am happy to make any recommendations you want. I have only been here since Feb but i know my way around pretty well.
Nike area is near Beaverton I think so I may not know to much in that area but portland is pretty small if you have a rental car you can see some amazing things in a day or two.

The biggest books store I think in the world if not the US, It's called Powell's and there are amazing food carts, a saturday and sunday market full of goodies, the Oyster Bar and Voodoo Donuts. Nicholas if you like lebanese food. AMazing Thai and Vietnamese. I know one place in particualr that is very special if you like Thai.

The Oregon Zoo is fun--one of the elephants just had a baby! Powell's is the bookstore Arden is talking about. It's amazing and is literally the size of a city block. You get a map when you walk in the door.
Portland is famous for good brunch. My favorite is Cup and Saucer, and there are a few locations. If you go there, get the scones!
The Alberta Arts District is a great place to walk around. Lots of cool funky galleries, boutiques, and restaurants.

I live in Portland too! Lots of good food here and most restaurants are pretty kid friendly. It's pretty easy to get around the city even without a car. The children's museum is also right next to the zoo and they're both within a really pretty forest/park - very pretty hikes/walks.

Yep! We go to Portland every few months...mostly for tax free shopping cannon beach is about an hour away and it's a gorgeous, fun little place especially in spring (but it's windy so pack warm clothes!)

@ TurtleDove if you're extending your stay and up for a drive, Yamhill-Carlton area is wine country and lots of fun, the Spruce Goose, a huge aviation museum is in McMinnville, they also have the coolest strip of Antique shops. There's also The Edgefield McMenamins in Troutdale. Another shorter drive would be heading to Multnomah Falls.
I'm not in Portland, I'm in the valley too.

I love Portland! We were on a trip there when we found out we were pregnant Our favorite things to do were hit up all the amazing food trucks and we did a SUPER long walk (which you can access by car or bus if you don't want to do the trek) from the Zoo all the way to the Japanese gardens. Perfect long walk in nice weather and the gardens were really beautiful. Voo Doo donuts for sure--get the maple bacon. And Pok Pok chicken wings!

@TurtleDoves: I lived in Salem and spent a lot of time in Portland. Powell's is awesome. The zoo is a good choice. For some mommy fun, I always love to go to the Nob Hill area to shop in the little stores there--cute stores for both kid items and adult clothes, jewelry, etc.. Make sure you eat some marionberry cobbler!

I have never been there, but Oregon has some kick ass good wine, I would totally try and find a winery (if there are any nearby) and check that out.

If your husband is doing something at Nike see if you can get passes to the employee store! It's amazing.

Tons of fun meetup ideas. There are some good restaurants here with play areas. Omsi and their science playground would be ideal. The zoo is heaven when it's nicer out.

@turtledoves: I'd definitely recommend OMSI. If you're in Beaverton they have a great Saturday market which should be open by May. A new aquarium is opening in Portland soon too and would be super fun to go to. Lots of wineries in Beaverton and the surrounding areas and if you're into Beer at all we have great microbrews everywhere. Widmer and Deschutes both have restaurants in Portland.

I don't live in Portland, but i highly recommend Voodoo Donuts and Pine State Biscuits. Yummmmmm!!
