Me! So with stores that have sales all the time, I consider the sale just "normal"... and wait until that sale has another promo ON TOP of the sale. Gap definitely comes to mind. Carter's too.

Me! I just think of "sales" as normal now. IE babygap, carters, etc.

Ann Taylor Loft has really been annoying me lately with all their sale emails...seems like there is one every single day.

I agree re: Carter's. The closest we have is an outlet and I'm like, ok do you ever charge regular price for this stuff because this one pajama set is not worth 18 dollars... but they always have the sales. Carter's clearance is pretty good though.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Carter's are in outlet malls but they aren't outlet stores. Drives me crazy.

I can't tell you how many times I make price adjustments, I don't care, if they say it can't be done, I call up customer service and most times, I am successful.

I do pay full price on occasion for things, but in general, I wait it out, especially with clothes. I don't "need" anything specific, so I can be flexible with color and whatnot depending on what I like.

I also HATE to pay for shipping.

I can't wrap my head around disliking sales for any reason. Saving money = always good.

@night cheese: the thing is... they're just making you think that you're getting it for such a good deal by putting up sale signs everywhere and "slashing prices" when in reality they're just marking up the "original retail price" like crazzyy and calling it a "sale". marketing ploy.

It's all pricing psychology - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_pricing - they're doing comparative pricing. making you think you're getting an excellent deal by situating it next to a high retail price.

This is why I shop mostly at thrift stores. I can find great clothes for way cheaper than these "sales" and they're still in great shape. I don't go broke while looking put together.

I agree that there are certain retailers who play this game every week. I won't buy anything for less than 40 percent off at Gap, or 50 percent off at LOFT, etc. I have to get something else on top of that to consider it a "deal" -- ha.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I couldn't agree more. It's really pushed me to shopping at Nordstroms (where I know what I'm getting) and Marshalls/TJX (where I know it's a deal).

Dude, yeah. I feel like Macy's is the chief offender here. I have NEVER seen a sales flyer from them that didn't advertise a sale, and they alllllllllways market it like it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

But their clearance can be SO good (esp. if there's a good coupon to stack with it) that I will keep shopping there sometimes. I got a pair of sandals that I have wanted for 2 years (Born 'Maldives') for 80% off last week there. YES!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: There seems to be Carter's clearance and then CLEARANCE. Online they'll mark it down one cent and make it ineligible for coupons other than % off clearance. But in the store I have found shirts on the rack for $1.99, used my in-store rewards and not paid shipping (plus it's 5 minutes from my house) so that's an actual deal.

I mean, the thing with a place like Kohl's...there's not a single day that you pay "sticker price"

I actually don't mind that I can walk in there and do a search for the store in my email and always find some coupon or deal that works that day.

I like it. That means that I never have to pay full price, right? If I don't always get THE best deal, that's ok.

@babynumber1: yes on Target Cartwheel and mobile coupons plus printed coupons. My cell service in my Target sucks too, so that adds to the frustration.

Although I guess Target doesn't bother me as much as Gap/ON and Carter's because Target has sales/coupons on different name brands. The other stores are their own brand and they are just playing the marketing game like @Mrs. High Heels: said! I hate getting all the emails too, but keep getting them because I feel stupid paying full price for anything at any of those stores!!

@night cheese: I hate how Kohl's cashiers say "you've saved $XX today!" because I always think..."no, I spent $XX today. I wouldn't have bought this stuff if it wasn't on sale!"

I also don't like Bed Bath & Beyond (and Kohl's) because I feel the prices are inflated to account for the fact that there's always a coupon out there that they expect you to use. So if I go in there without the coupon, everything is so expensive. It's cheaper to buy most stuff on Amazon with Prime.

@Mrs. Detour: haha I won't go as far as shopping at nordstorms! My wallet isn't fat enough for that kind of principled stand but I'm all about TJMaxx and the like.
