Thinking of ordering it for 20% off at Pish Posh Baby if I can get it shipped to a family member in the US.
Any one have it? Thoughts?

I don't have it (yet) but I've played with it at Buy Buy Baby. It was super easy to install, but a little heavier than others we tried. Very nice looking. I really like it and think when we finally get pregnant it's what we are going to get.

DS isn't here yet, but we have the Uppababy Mesa. So far, we love it. It was super easy for DH to install - the bases in both cars were install in minutes and perfectly correct. It was also the smallest seat we could find, since I need the leg room on the passenger side.

@Mrs. Champagne: FYI it is actually illegal for Canadians to buy an American carseat to use in Canada.

Don't have it, but looked at it as an option at buy buy baby... It's heavy!! We decided (for now) that we would probably end up getting the maxi cosi mico ap because it's so nice and light.

My SIL bought it and returned it. She didn't have center LATCH and it did not secure well with seatbelt. I actually talked to the Car Seat Lady who agreed that the Mesa is kind of a disaster with seat belt installation. So I would get it if you have LATCH but skip it if you don't.

@QBbride: really? i can order it on Amazon Canada.. it's just cheaper if I get it on the US site and ship it there. hmmmmm
coconut / 8483 posts
@QBbride: AHH nevermind! it's not on the canadian website, the vista is. HMMM!!!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
ditto @QBbride:
Mesa still hasn't passed Can safety standards and therefor doesn't have the National Safety Mark to make its use legal. It would get confiscated at the border anyway.
Bummer bc I really wanted the mesa. Last I heard from its Cdn distributor its release would be sometime in 2014
coconut / 8483 posts
@char54: I guess I will just order the stroller, and then wait to see if the Mesa is out by March! If not I will get something else in Canada.. I just wanted it all to match! haha
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@Mrs. Champagne: Haha that was me, wanting everything to match and waiting....I emailed the Canadian distributor (5514km) every month until they finally got sick of me and told me it wouldn't be ready for my Sept due date, lol.
In the end we went with the Chicco Keyfit and are really happy. The Vista folds with the adapter and it clicks in so nicely.
It's such a pain bringing baby stuff across the border...we bought our crib there and the box had to show French/English instructions, name/address of Cdn distributor, and a bunch of safety stamps.
Luckily our crib had all that info on it but apparently car seats are next to impossible to bring across so we just bit the bullet and bought it in Canada, even though the same model is sold in the States for much cheaper!

@char54: oh man! i didn't know it was such a hassle!! the stroller shouldn't be as much of an issue right? it's literally hundreds cheaper to order in the US!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@Mrs. Champagne: Bringing a stroller across is similar to bringing a crib, as far as I could tell (I emailed border services before we went to the States to make sure). It's not as hard as bringing across a car seat or walker (ie: impossible) but it's not exactly 100% easy.
I was told that if it meets current safety standards (which the Vista would since the exact same model is sold in Canada) and there are no recalls the border agent usually lets it go across, but that ultimately the decision is up to him/her and they can be really picky about french/english instructions, Canadian distributor address and info, safety marks, etc if they want to be.
In the end I could only find the Vista for $40 cheaper in the USA so I bought I ended up buying it here. Also the 2 year warranty isn't valid in Canada when you buy it in the States so not sure what would happen if something broke down. If you can find it for hundreds of dollars cheaper though I'd probably take the risk and buy it in the US to save the $$!

@Mrs. Champagne: I wouldn't think the stroller would be an issue. If I were you, I'd probably take it out of the box and pretend I had it all along... if it saves you money, go for it!
I have a Vista and loooove it. Most of my friends have stroller envy

@jill_a55: so I'm having this same Mesa vs Maxi Cosi Mico AP dilemma, and I think I settled on the Maxi Cosi. What did you decide?
apricot / 448 posts
@LovelyPlum: I'm going with the maxi cosi! When I was in buy buy baby the associate told me how awesome the mico ap was with the vista and after playing with that vs. The Mesa in the store a bunch and researching, it seems like the best option!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@LovelyPlum: I originally planned on getting the Maxi Cosi and then ended up getting the Mesa...I'm starting to think about selling it, though. I love the way it looks with the Vista and Cruz but it's just so heavy!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@spaniellove: I was worried about this! I think I'd rather have a lighter bucket seat.
I know that the Maxi Cosi doesn't have a super long life because of weight/height limits, but that doesn't really bug me, I don't think. Part of the reason that I am not worried about the low weight limit of the Maxi Cosi is that I figure we can always switch to a convertible when the time comes. Plus, I'm not sure that it's worth it to spend the extra money on the seat now, when I could put that towards a really awesome convertible (I'm somewhat enamored with the Foonf).
BTW, what stroller are you getting?
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jill_a55: I haven't gone to play with carseats in BBB yet, but that is on my list to do for this week. We're getting the Cruz, but I'm glad to know that it works well with the Vista! I honestly wonder how much we'll actually use the carseat with the stroller, but it's good to have options, I guess.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@LovelyPlum: Long story...I bought a Vista, then had a change of heart because I thought it was too heavy and got a Cruz, thinking I would sell the Vista. Then I decided I actually needed the Vista too, so I'm keeping both! As you can see I need to think carefully before I decide to get a different car seat. Everything seems heavy to me.
apricot / 448 posts
@LovelyPlum: It seems like I'm in that place weekly!! I don't really worry about the longevity of the Maxi Cosi either, we're going to register for the carrier and convertible and hope we get both or can use the completion discount for the convertible. Plus the vista comes with the bassinet and UB has a newborn wrap to make the toddler chairs fit.
The Maxi Cosi uses a similar style of adapters as the UB family, so you just have to click those in to the vista, I imagine it would be the same as the cruz? I like that you don't have to put a strap across the carrier or use one of those larger kits for it!
ETA: The MC felt like I was picking up a cloud compared to the mesa and all the other ones!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@jill_a55: @LovelyPlum: I think the Cruz and Vista use different adapters, but there is a Cruz/Maxi Cosi adapter!
One thing holding me back from getting the seat with the lower height/weight limit is that I want to hold off as long as possible on getting a convertible seat for my car, since DH's car doesn't fit an infant seat and we have to get a Combi Coccoro for his car.
apricot / 448 posts
@spaniellove: Have you looked at the Maxi Cosi Pria 70? It's supposed to fit in small spaces too...
honeydew / 7916 posts
@jill_a55: The reviews seem to make it sound like its best suited for an SUV? His car has a very small back seat.
honeydew / 7916 posts
Just wanted to update, I stopped at BBB today and had a chance to check out the car seats! It turns out I like the Mesa best despite its weight - the canopy is sturdier and I like the material better. The canopy on the Mico seemed inconvenient and because the bottom edge isn't attached, it was in the way a lot.
And after going through all the convertible seats I think we're going to try the Peg Perego for DH's car!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@spaniellove: thanks for the update! I'm headed there this weekend to play Glad you found some good stuff!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jill_a55: @spaniellove: so after spending 2 hours at BBB, I've come to the conclusion that I hate infant seats. I think we're going directly to the convertible, and I'm looking at the Peg. I just can't do the heavy seats.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@LovelyPlum: They are heavy! The Peg looks really nice and gets great reviews. You can't go wrong with that one.

@LovelyPlum: @jill_a55: I know this is totally unsolicited, but I have the Maxi Cosi + Cruz and I love, love it! I originally wanted the Mesa but it wasn't going to be out in time. It's way heavier than the Mico, though, and I am so glad I went with the Mico because my LO is only 4 months old & 14 lbs and that thing is hella heavy! And my LO is 46% in weight so not even some huge baby.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@lawbee11: thanks! It's so nice to hear reviews from people who actually have them. If we go the infant seat route, I think we'll go Maxi Cosi. Honestly, though, I might just be anti-infant seat
@spaniellove: It fits so well in our car, too! Maybe I'm making my life harder without the infant seat, but I just don't know if I can do it. We'll see if that changes between now and April, though
apricot / 448 posts
@LovelyPlum: I was kinda on the fence about the infant seat too... Pretty sure I even made a post about it on here and people swayed me a bit.
@lawbee11: thanks for the review! I can't imagine getting anything but the maxi cosi after going in and lifting them all up!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jill_a55: fair I was that way at first, then I got swayed to try the infant seat, then I went in to start our registry. Now I am firmly back in camp convertible carseat. Watch the baby get here and me make DH go get an infant seat
apricot / 448 posts
@LovelyPlum: haha seriously. We've still go a few months to go back and forth I guess! I'm going to register for it, I think it would take one wake up of a sleepy baby in a carseat to flip my opinion if I went straight to convertible.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@jill_a55: Seriously...my LO has taken a number of naps in her car seat (in our house!) after driving her around was the only thing that got her to nap. You'll be glad you have it when that happens to you! Plus I only ever really carry it from the house to the car or the car to the stroller. Whenever DH is with us (which is most of the time) he carries it.
honeydew / 7463 posts
Reopening this thread in hopes that someone got it in the last few months? I'm really leaning towards this one but don't know anyone IRL that has one.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@SweetiePie: After all that back and forth we decided to stick with the Mesa. We thought we were going to get the Chicco Keyfit with the nicer canopy but I hated that canopy. Then I got the Cybex Aton 2 and thought it felt wobbly and just not as nice. Despite the weight we just thought nothing came close to the Mesa in terms of quality!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@spaniellove: that's what I'm thinking too. And maybe I'm naive but I don't know that if be carrying the car seat for super long distances anyway. That's what I'll have the stroller base for! And my husband
In my mind heavy means sturdy and well built. It just LOOKS safe and cozy.
Although now I have 2 friends who swear by the Orbit travel system. Did you look into that at all? It swivels 360 so you can easily move baby front to back facing and can even face you while you're taking him/her out of the car - no weird angle.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@SweetiePie: You know, I never looked into the Orbit and after looking at a magazine last night I was wondering if I should have looked at the Orbit and Stokke! But now that I have the Cruz and Vista (and someone has bought us the G-Luxe...) I have no regrets.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
We got the Mesa! No experience using it yet since lo isn't born yet, but we have practiced installing it (we don't have a car and so will be using it in cabs, zipcars, rental cars, etc). We have the Cruz so we were sold on not having to use adapters (one less step when getting into those cabs!). We were told by car safety in cabs experts (only NYC has a market for that!) that the Mesa and cybex were easiest/best for cabs, and the cybex seemed a little less sturdy to me in person. Plus, adapters
