I feel like I need a reboot in so many ways. Energy, skin, weight, etc., I've been thinking of something drastic, which to me means something like Whole30. Would anyone on here want to team up and do it the month of April??

@knittylady: I lost 15 pounds and I had a lot more energy. I would say plan to add about an hour of meal prep to your day and 25% more to your grocery budget. We ate pretty decently anyway so we just cleaned up our regular menu for most nights and tried two new recipes a week. Anything you're anticipating a struggle with?

I'm game! I tried in January and got completely derailed 2 weeks in.

I've been planning on doing it in April for the past few months! I so want to join in, I just need to check with my midwife that its healthy for baby and I ( I think Ill keep eating yogurt and some dairy though) But I'll the research I've done said its perfectly safe during pregnancy.

I'm down! I finished one round in January, and I felt great after it. I've been trying to eat Whole30-esque, but I definitely need to be more disciplined about it.

Count me in. I've been wanting to do it for years but never have. I'm hoping to get more energy and drop some of these last 15 baby lbs.

I'm pinning away recipes! Anyone have a meal plan ready?
I think I'll struggle the most with snacking. What is there besides nuts and fruit???

Anyone done a Whole30 while nursing a very young baby? I have been wanting to try this, but I'm concerned about my milk supply! I did Paleo after DD1 and lost lots of weight/ felt great but my supply tanked.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@caterw: I'm on day 30 and my DD2 is almost five months old. I had a bit of an oversupply so I was okay, but I did see a decrease in supply (I pump at work). It was worst the first couple days then jumped back to an in-between place. I ate lots of avocados to keep it up! I'm interested to see what happens when I add oatmeal back in for breakfast.

@knittylady: part of the deal is that you are really supposed to avoid snacking if possible. You are supposed to get nice and full at meals and then since you won't have a carb crash be able to wait until your next meal. But I kept nuts and fruit around for when that just didn't work.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@caterw: Oh, and I should add. I snacked my face off--they say to give yourself a little more leeway with that rule if you're nursing. Also, try to have a starchy veg at every meal--carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. That'll keep your supply from totally tanking, too!

@MrsSRS: This is why I want to do another one whenever I'm done nursing. I didn't really kick the sweets craving completely because I was still eating so much fruit and nuts due to nursing.

Cant participate now while being pregnant but i did it last January. I lost about 12 lbs while also implementing heavier weight lifting in the gym. I continued to lose weight afterwards for a while with implementing some new foods back in.
Snacke were a must because i was so hungry after lifting, so id do banana and almond butter, fruit, nuts, seeds, and frozen veggie bags with ghee and salt plus garlic powder.
I did a lot of boring meals which helped keep me on track because i wasnt stressing over new stuff to cook. You can do stuffed cabbage rolls, zucchini or squash spaghetti, roasted chicken and veggies (i ate some potatoes on occasion too. I read it was ok).
Good luck to you. And you can do it!

I'm in. DH and I did Paleo for three years previously but fell off the wagon during pregnancy #2. We've continued with Paleo meals for the most part but have been eating out, drinking and desserting more. I'm looking forward to recommitting to clean eating and healthy practices like exercising.

I'm in. I've never been successful with a whole 30, but would really love to try.

I'm in! Just saw this, but we are planning on starting next Sunday, so the 2nd.
I'm nervous, it seems a little overwhelming, but I should be getting the book in today, so I'm ready!

@knittylady: I did the Whole30 in January and continue to eat Whole30ish/Paleo since. I lost some weight, gained energy, my skin got clearer, and overall felt better. I agree with @MrsSRS about eating enough during your meals so you do not feel the need to snack. If I would have a snack it would be a Larabar, raw nuts/seeds, compliant uncured ham or turkey, hard boiled eggs, fruit, almond butter, smashed avocado with veggie sticks, or a small bowl of soup. I have lots of delicious recipes if you need any. The trick is to always make a lot of leftovers so you don't feel like you are cooking all the time.

@mfa_lady: I think I'm gonna have to sit this one out then- our ped recommended we should start on solids soon (baby is almost 5 months and HUGE) and I think two shocks to my supply would kill it!

Wanna share meal plans for the first week? And what you'll prep?
I'm planning on making like a quadruple batch of whole30 lemon marinade then grilling like 20 chicken breasts. I'll put some in fridge but the most in the freezer - or half and half? I'll also roast a bunch of sweet potatoes for the fridge...
*So with all that chicken I'm hoping for lots of grilled chicken on salad with avocado, grilled portobello, and maybe even compliant bacon. This is one of my favorite meals in general so I'm hoping it'll help me feel that I'm not reinventing the wheel with all the new recipes...
*Likely will roast a chicken and veggies and make rice for the kids to have with it.
*Burgers from trader joes - buns for the kiddos. Make sweet potato fries for the side?
*Whole30 chicken tikka masala in the crockpot.
Hopefully all of that will cover the first week! Now to think of Breakfast....

@knittylady: I've decided to join!! I've never done anything like this, but I think the group support would be good for me right now.
I'll have to break it to my daughter that our Saturday ShakeShack routine is going to have to go on hiatus though... She'll likely assume it's an April Fool's joke as I love that place.

@Academicsocialite: yay!! I feel like it's going to feel like a good way to punish my body for the sad/mad feelings I have, but then on the flip side it will actually be a great way to heal it and hopefully prepare it for pregnancy in the future. #notcrazy

Commenting to follow. I plan to start the day after Easter. I need to fast for a medical procedure, so it feels like a clean start

So... today was my day one. I realize this is going to be hard for me to do, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Today's wins-no coffee (which I can't drink without milk), I went out for lunch to a place I researched in advance and had a brisket hash, so was compliant. I also went to a 5 year olds birthday party, and there was pizza, and I didn't have any.
I'd kill for a glass of wine right about now though.

@Academicsocialite: yesterday was my day one as well. Way harder psychologically than I expected!!

@knittylady: I started yesterday as well. I'm actually doing GAPS which is slightly more restrictive. The beginning is the worst!

I'm starting tomorrow. I was super annoyed this morning because my husband thought we were starting today and got my daughter donuts, but not us lol. I was going to really splurge, but instead I just had an English muffin. About to head to the store for fresh veggies

PIZZA PIZZA PIZZA! This is terrible!!! I'm so sick of eggs and it's only been a day and a half!!!

Whoops! So, April 1st came and went and I totally forgot. I think I'll start after Easter at this point.

I'm not going quite whole30 mode but I just re-committed to my Whole eating plan!
Today was day 1 - I always start on a work day when I am out of the house and only have the food I planned/brought at my disposal! Breakfast was oatmeal, snack was apple and natural peanut butter, lunch was salmon and potato wedges, snack was Jicama and dinner will be eggs and some bacon or sausage! Plus lots of water...and all my vitamins!

Cauliflower and potato curry on a bed of cauliflower rice. I had to laugh after I served myself. In this case, I only have myself to blame. I think I'll have bunless burgers topped with bacon and guac tomorrow to make up for how sad dinner made me tonight.
ETA - And the curry was actually really food! It was just cauliflower overload...

Ugh getting out of the evening snack habit is so hard. Breakfasts at my house this week: saute an onion and a container of baby bella mushrooms in ghee, layer in a glass dish, top with a bag of raw spinach, pour over a dozen beaten eggs. Bake, cut into six slices, serve with salsa and/or hot sauce and avocado.
pomelo / 5258 posts
I started on the 1st and I've been feeling pretty good so far. The evenings are really hard but everything else has been ok. Today was scrambled eggs + veg for breakfast, chili for lunch, roast chicken + asparagus + potatoes for dinner. I was surprised to see you can have potatoes on Whole30 now so I was super excited to eat them.
I picked up some paleo books at the library. I had never been outside of the kids' section there so this is already expanding my horizons.

@MrsSRS: I totally made this yesterday after reading this! I'm so happy I don't have to turn it on the stove this morning!
@Corduroy: potatoes are saving me right now

I saw this post- thought it might be helpful:

I'm going to try to prep a few freezer meals myself. I forgot how much cooking was involved in whole 30. And kids are off next week...
In other news, I'm craving everything that's not allowed, like crazy.

@knittylady: yay!
My other fast breakfast favorite is two hardboiled eggs with hot sauce and a piece of fruit.
My family loves this recipe, but we skip the tapioca flour and use ghee not coconut oil
http://www.foodfaithfitness.com/mango-chicken-with-coconut-cauliflower-rice/
My favorite lunches this week are a bed of greens with whatever protein we had for dinner the night before and a dollop of guac, or roasted cauliflower and zucchini with leftover protein.

DH (who has decided not to join me on this ) grilled 8 pounds of chicken breast for me last night! He stayed up till 11 and grilled in the rain. He's my favorite person ever.
