I usually do our taxes in February, but I've been procrastinating since I know we will owe this year. I finally have our tax appt next week.
Any other stragglers like me?

Ah yes I am way behind. I'm an independent contractor (private speech therapist) and it takes me forever to do all my tax write offs and such. I need to get it done this weekend! Thanks for the reminder

@delight: We have a few weird things going on this year too, including that I work from home/ have a home office so trying to get stuff together for that. Yuck.

@winniebee: yeah it takes so much time to work it all out with home write offs. I have an accountant who does my taxes but I still have to submit pages of write offs and mileage. Good luck!

Nope. Dh insists on doing them with pen and paper, which I think is crazy, but as long as he's willing. I think the plan is to do them this weekend.

No we are procrastinators! We basically wait until the last day to file an extension and then end up waiting until the last day to file in October. We are bad! Every year I say we need to just get an accountant to do it, but then we run out of time!

I Turbotaxed and it was scary so we made an appointment with an accountant in a few weeks.

I've been doing it in February the last few years. Not this year. I have decided to take our taxes to someone instead of using the computer program. I think I wasn't sure who I should take it to... Just go to H&R block or someone one else.

@bluestriped bee: if you're going to pay someone to do it go to a CPA. The employees at H&R block aren't CPAs and they are essentially just using the same computer program you could use at home and are therefore very little value added.

@Truth Bombs: yeah, that's what I was thinking. I asked my local friend for her recommendations and she said she takes hers to H&R block. Should I keep asking around for recommendations?

We just submitted our paperwork to our accountant yesterday. I used to do them myself the first week of February! But then my husband's job situation got more complicated and mom brain has me very scattered with our paperwork so I'm surprised I got it together before April this year.

@bluestriped bee: yep. If you have any friends who are small business owners, or are particularly wealthy (would have irrevocable trusts, etc), those are the people who are more likely to have complicated tax returns, and therefore have a CPA.

Ours are at the CPA but I still haven't gotten two forms out of our control. Last year one showed up on April 15th!

I'm such a crazy prson, I freak out if ours aren't done by February. We've already got (and spent) our little return. Nothing fun, we used it to pay off a hospital bill and new tires...booo. ha

We are getting a refund and I still haven't submitted! I really need to. We have owed the past two years but I was off work for 4 months this year and had a baby so I guess that changed things.

No. Will probably do it later this month. On years that DH receives a bonus, we usually get a refund.

This is the latest we've ever filed. There was a mess up on the newly required proof of health insurance form (THANKS OBAMA, jk jk), so I just finally got the corrected one back and we submitted everything to our CPA this week.
We changed our withholdings last year so we don't get such a big refund back (don't want to give an interest free loan to the government any longer!) so I'm anxious to see if we withheld correctly, or withheld too much and owe, or if we will still get a refund.

@bluestriped bee: I agree that'd I go to a CPA. Ours were complicated this year and so we took them to a CPA for that reason and the ballparked amount we'll get back doubled from me inputting them online. We did h and r block 2 years ago and they just filled in the online screen and charged us $300. Also our CPA said H and R block people have 12 hours of training and in our state he's required to have a degree and 40 hours of training each year.

No! I'm trying to finish this weekend and this is early for me. I swear for the last five years I have started in February and then have to spend a month chasing down a missing form and don't end up doing it till the 14th. I got my last form yesterday so it should be almost done!
