We had a lot of people shop for the shower the day of, I'm a registry stalkers too so I also worried and was very surprised to see lots of things from my registry at the shower because I looked at it that morning.

Do you have a lot of hand me down clothes? We got a lot of clothes but I was happy for it... I didn't buy my lo any and didn't start getting hand me downs till she was older, so without that I would have had to do a lot of shopping.

I almost always buy shower gifts a day or two before, sometimes the same day. So try not to worry!

I'm particular about clothes, too (ok - I guess I'm particular about everything! LOL) so I get where you're coming from. Just hope everyone gives receipts! I'm sure you'll get a few things that you didn't register for that you'll decide you like and then you can return the rest.

It seems like most people wanted to get me clothes since I was having a girl. I took back what I could to get what I really needed.

Not to be a downer, but we only had 20 things purchased off our registry (almost exclusively from target....only 2 gifts from BRU). I was very cautious to register for mostly things available in store. We got a ton of Carter's onesie outfits with pants (you know the ones that have 3 or 4 onesies and pants on a hanger). I'm not fond of them at all. We got no "real clothes." We didnt get at diapers either. We are having a boy so I was hoping for more useful stuff. Fortunately the items purchased from the registry were great things that we needed!

I got a TON of clothes because LO is a girl. Especially at the shower in my hometown. In my experience, you get more gear if you're having a boy, but that's obviously not always the case.

@ValentineMommy: I am so afraid that this is going to happen to me. My family isn't good about shopping off registries. I know that we are going to get a ton of clothes that we don't like. Just going to tell people if they ask what we need everything on the regristry. Right now I am holding off buying clothes unless on clearance since I know that we are going to end up buying a lot of other stuff we need.

@Arden: Me too, I love gift cards. I think people sometimes hesitate though, since it puts a dollar value on the gift which may be a bit uncomfortable for people.

I also think that many people forget about registries because they want to choose something that is personal to them. Such as an item that they found helpful with their kids, clothing that they themselves think is cute, etc. What can you do, it is out of love!

We got soooo little off of the registry and a lot of what we did get was stuff I REALLY didn't want. So it all went back. Out of maybe 30 outfits, I kept one. It was a pain in the butt to return everything, but I'm glad that I was able to at least use store credit to get what I do need.

Y@ValentineMommy: You & I sound alike! I am picky about clothes and stuff and bought a whole lot on sale already myself! Definitely more than 1/2 the gear I truly need and hope to get are online only (even for BRU!) Im hoping for more GC's from last minute shoppers, and if all else fails, I will return most e eything uneccessary for store credit to try and get gear we will really need.
I know most people do like to give cutsey clothes because it's cheap, easy, fast, and they think it's more personal. I posted about how shocked I was at the last baby shower I went to was for a boy. I would say over 95% of the gifts were clothes! When I went to buy off their registry a few days before, I was the first person to do so!.

@ValentineMommy: Hopefully if you do get clothes then they will come with gift receipts or at least be obvious where they came from so you can take them back. A lot of mine had gift receipts but I kept them so didn't need to use them. I wouldn't have felt bad taking them back though if I wasn't going to use them.

I also stalked our registry right up until the Wednesday before (my shower was Sunday after Thanksgiving). As of Wednesday, only like 13 things had been purchased. But we got a ton more than that at the shower. We also got a bunch of stuff that we don't want/need, though, and NO ONE gave gift receipts, which is totally annoying. The one thing I'm really annoyed about is that someone gave us a trainer potty that looks like it's been opened and resealed shut. Gross. And frustrating, because I can't even return it.

we got a ton of stuff on our registry and i was super excited. i only returned maybe 6 items total from both showers (duplicates mostly) and then i exchanged some clothes for sizing.

i did go to my friend's shower this weekend and it seemed like she got a LOT of clothes. a bunch of us went in on a larger gift and it was all on her registry because we know how much you need that stuff!

We got zero off our PBKids registry and I was so bummed! We did ok with our BRUs registry but still had a significant amount of stuff left that we needed to buy. I returned a lot of clothes or other items I really didn't want or like. It was sometimes challening to figure out where, and I ended up with gift cards at target, BRUs, walmart, and TJ Maxx but I'd rather have that than items I wouldn't want or use. Don't be afraid to return stuff!

I think people enjoy buying baby clothes which isn't usually on registries.

@blackbird: Lots! Most of the gifts from our wedding shower and wedding gifts didn't come with gift receipts and were stuff we didn't register for. And half were things we had no need or desire for.
