I know the majority of Bees are married but I was wondering if there's anyone besides me who isn't? My SO and I have been engaged since March and were planning the wedding but postponed it after we found out I was pregnant.
It can't just be me, surely. =)

@chopsuey119: I saw that and noticed one person was in a serious relationship and that I was the only one engaged (so far) Everyone else is married! That's what made me start this thread. I wanted to know who the other person/people is/are!

@MsMamaBear: Oooh. For some reason I totally assumed you were married! *laughs* Cool =) It makes me feel better knowing it's not just me who isn't married. It doesn't bother me usually but seeing "husband" everywhere on the boards made me feel... funny. Does that make sense? XD

LoL! A lot of ppl irl think I'm married too, maybe it's Baby Bear or my age. I understand you, it's the same reason I answered the poll, but didn't comment.

40% of babies are born to moms who are not married! It's a huge trend... I think over time, more and more moms on Hellobee will be unmarried!
The numbers are probably a bit skewed on Hellobee for now though, since a number of members have come over from a wedding site.

@MsMamaBear: It didn't bother me until my mother mentioned that my grandparents were a little put out over it. It just made me think that maybe others are equally upset but just haven't said anything. Lol, maybe I'm just paranoid.

@mrbee: Wow! 40% is a lot higher than I thought it'd be. I only know one other person who has kids and isn't married and she's 16! I figured that most people came from Weddingbee, but I was still surprised at the poll from the other thread. Still, it's early days, right?

@Elonwy: I've noticed that it's also much more common/accepted in places outside the US (I'm in the UK) for people to have "partners" and not be married. Is it the same in Australia?

@MegWag: Yes, I think people are more accepting of it here. Or at least, I hope they are and aren't just not saying anything! Mind you, I only know of younger women who have kids so I might have a bias view.
I will be entirely honest but I look very young so I'm mentally bracing myself incase someone decides to tell me how awful I am for having kids at my age and "living in sin" *rolls eyes* I think that's a throwback reaction though and not born of any fear of anyone actually saying anything to me. I'm the first one in my family, of all cousins and aunts and uncles to have a child born "out of wedlock".

I wasn't married when I had DS. I didn't marry his dad either. I married DH when DS was 2 1/2, and now we are expecting our first together.

I do feel like I get looks at the store walking around with a 4 yr old and being pregnant. I look so young, and people don't always see that I'm married, so I feel like they judge me. But I don't care. I know the situation, and I love my child more than anything!
It is a more accepted thing now I think. there are a LOT of unmarried, and some very young, mothers these days. I actually used to work with a girl who has been with her SO for like 9 yrs or something, and they have 2 kids together (first one not planned, second one planned), and they still aren't married! Its just not their thing.

@Rosie Girl: I'm so glad I don't go to church anymore! I'm not showing yet but I do worry about when I do start showing, what people will think. It shouldn't bother me but it does. I think it would bother me even if I was married but at least then I feel like I can turn around and say "well actually.. I'm married!" I'm tempted to just say that if anyone does say anything anyway!
I agree that it is more accepted than it used to be. Plus I'm stubborn. The more people who think we should have a shotgun wedding the more I'll put my foot down and say no.

im an engaged bee too! i have a great 14 month old soon. we were planning to get engaged/married in around 2010 but when we found out about being pregnant and a bunch of unpleasantness (not DS!!!) at that time all of our plans got put on hold.

@Elonwy: we caught so much flack for it from my family. his famiy was great. we were actually living with them for over a year but my family had a cow. they were not too happy that we were living together before being married but add a kid and oh geez. the FI lost his job and i had some pretty gnarly pregnancy complications so instead of half a**ing a wedding and being majorly in debt we put everything on hold and put the saved money to better things. i think by now they have come to accept it but it took some time. im very very glad we did what we did and would not change a thing

@aprose: I'm sorry your family gave you so much trouble. I'm glad you don't regret it though and that everything worked out. This is one of the reasons we put our wedding on hold. I can't find work and FI works seasonally so money is tight right now. We figured it would be better to put the money towards a baby than a wedding. I hope everything is going well for you guys now!
