Hi all! Is there anyone over 35 trying for their first baby? I'm 36 going on 37 and we are trying for our first baby. We were pregnant earlier this year but miscarried so just like the Bees, our view on babies was changed. I realize you can do everything "right" but it's not under your control. We're hoping to get preggers before the end of the year otherwise we'll look into other options.

Close! I'm 34 in November and he's 38 in December. We're TTC for the first time and we would really like to get pregnant before 35.
I did find it reassuring the other day when I met a woman with a 19 month old who had her when she was 42. A happy and healthy baby girl with no complications. I figure the better we take care of our bodies as we get older, our bodies will take care of that lo inside when we do get pregnant.

Close too- i am 34 right now. Like JBHops I would love to get pregnant before 35- if only so i don't have to repeat myself "no I do not want to do genetic screening." over and over again.

We got married just after I turned 38. We were pregnant oh, about 2 weeks later. She was born a month before I turned 39. Things happened really fast! And yes we did genetic screening and it was so nice to have peace of mind throughout the pregnancy!

I gave birth at 35. I wish I would have met my husband in my 20's but it didn't happen that way. According to my OB, advanced maternal age is 40, so after the nuchal scan, further testing isn't required, unless of course, you want it...and you can have it at any age.

I'm close-I'll be 35 in December, he'll be 42. We were NTNP for about 7 months but have been TTC seriously since June. I'd love to be pregnant before I turn 35. Mostly because we'd like 2 or 3 kids and I'd really like to be done by the time I turn 40!

I am! I am! I turn 36 in November. We are struggling with some infertility issues following a loss last December. We started TTC right after we married last August.

I gave birth to my LO last December at the tail end of 35. Luckily, the whole pregnancy wasn't as terrible as I expected, lol. We're gonna try for baby #2 next year when I'm 37. I hear that it gets increasingly harder on your body the older you get so I'm gonna get back in shape (especially my back) before we try again.

I just got married last year and we have been trying since then. We are both 35 and will be 36 in a couple of months. We found out tha t his SA is very poor and I have PCOS but we are going to have our first IUI tomorrow so we'll see!

Yes! I turned 36 on Sunday (ugh). We've been trying since we got married August 2010, so now on 15 months of TTC. We had an early loss in December and a chemical this past cycle. We're currently researching the best fertility centers to do IVF in 2012.

I will begin trying in January. so new year hopefully will mean baby. i am 34 now but i turn 35 in June so i think that's close enough. could take me a while because my AMH is low. we shall see.

We are TTC and over 35. We are both 38. I go for an Ultrasound tomorrow and and will have blood work done at some specific points in my cycle. The doctor wants my husband to get a semen analysis as well. We have been off BC for a year but not charting.

I'm 38. DH is 32. DH and I didn't meet until I was 35 and we got married when I was 37. We've been TTC for 16 months. After trying for just under a year, we started working with an RE. We did 2 clomid cycles with an HCG trigger, and then 2 rounds of IUI. I became pregnant on the second IUI, but lost the baby at 7.5 weeks. Last Friday, about 5 weeks after my mc, I was completly shocked to see a positive HPT; however my beta was only 6.5. I have my 2nd Beta draw today and I'm anxiously awaiting the results to see if numbers look promising.

I'm 42 and DH is 45. Have my myo followup on Tuesday. Hope all healed well so we can start trying this cycle or next.

It's so nice to see that there are more ladies who are around the same age. Sometimes I feel like an old fart (even though being Asian, I look younger than my age) surrounded by spring chickens.
All the literature about women who are more "advanced" in age and pregnancy concerns me and puts unnecessary worries into my head. I know that being older has some disadvantages health wise but I'm hoping that we'll all have healthy babies soon! Good luck to y'all! Btw-- I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant but had a loss back in March at 12 weeks. So as excited as I am, I'm still a bit apprehensive about completely embracing this pregnancy. I probably won't really believe it until there's a baby in my hands!

I'm 37 and have a three month old. She was born 2.5 weeks after my 37th birthday. I conceived when I was 36, my husband was 34. It took us about 4 months to get a positive result. I don't have anything to compare to as this was our first child, but my pregnancy wasn't bad. My doctor did deem me AMA (I guess it depends on the doctor as to if they deem AMA at 35 or 40). I also ended up with Gestational Diabetes which ended up being a blessing for controlling diet/weight gain.
My doctor also scheduled an induction due to AMA and Gestational Diabetes that resulted in a c-section. I also opted to do genetic screening to fully understand my risks and we were low risk. I did not choose any invasive means of screening.
Good luck to you all. I think you will find first time mom's over 35 is a growing population. Women are getting married and starting their families later in life than in prior generations.

@mssally: Fortunately, I know several women around my age who are just getting started. . Also in my family, women have had children in their late 30s and early 40s w/out any assistance. Knowing that I'm not alone, I'm more relaxed about getting pregnant @ this age.

Bumping this old thread hoping to hear I am not alone! I'm 40, DH is 39, we are both really healthy & we are TTC for our 1st. We mc'd last month on our 1 yr anniversary, but fortunately, AF just arrived (29 days later--yay body!). I'm eager to get back to opk's & get serious again this cycle, but some days (like today) it gets REALLY hard to stay positive that if I got pg once, I can do it again & have a sticky baby this time.
I was hoping to either hear updates from pp's that were successful or from current mamas-to-be who are also of advanced maternal age. While plenty of bees seem to be having many other challenges, I don't get the impression there are many others on here in my camp. Am I the only old lady TTC??

@GoGoSnoGirl: Yay! Another AMA comrade! I'm 39 this year and we're working on #2. I feel like such an old lady on these boards because so many people are in their early 30s.
I was 37 when #1 was born and didn't realize that I was considered old at that age. Now I feel so much more pressure because I keep seeing all of these articles about how my fertility is supposed to take a nosedive soon.

I did! I did! We conceived our first when I was 35 (for only 3 more weeks) had her Nov 2013 when I was 36

This does make me feel better & reminds me that it is entirely possible to have a healthy baby even if I am AMA. -
I started trying at age 33 and am almost 10 weeks pregnant at 35. I'll be 36 when I deliver.
Sometimes I can get worked up thinking, "Will this be my only pregnancy?" I always wanted 3-4 kids. But then I take a breath, remind myself to appreciate where I am now, and trust that things will work out.

@GoGoSnoGirl: I am 36 and currently 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I will be 37 when I have her. One of my best friends just had her first baby at 36 as well so don't worry about being considered AMA. I believe it is much more common than it once was for women our age to be having babies.

I certainly wish I'd started just a little earlier, but hearing all these stories of perfectly normal pregnancies & babies for older mamas does make me feel better! I think just getting over the hurdle of getting pregnant again & past the 1st tri will make everything after that seem like a cake walk.

Have any of you older ladies researched supplements for improved egg quality? I've recently learned that there are several such as ubiquinol, royal jelly, maca root, DHEA, omega 3's and vitamin D. Thought it might be of interest, especially for those who have experienced a loss.

@Mrs. Jacks: thanks for the information! I have heard a little bit about maca root (I think it was) from my massage therapist with regard to male fertility. And conflicting info about vitamin D... I'll have to look into it all a little more.
