We're thinking of moving as our current house is bursting at the seams. We live in a university town, so there are tons of potential tenants around, so we're considering buying a house with a finished basement that can be converted into an apartment. We could get a lot more house if we were able to also get some rental income to put toward our mortgage.
We would, of course, have to be super choosy with any tenants we had - this would be of utmost importance to us.
I am, at once, very enthusiastic about the financial benefits, but also very concerned about someone else living in our space, giving up storage space, and possible landlord-tenant issues.
Just wondering if anyone else has done this and what your experience has been with it?
