I'm a little scared I won't follow through, but I'm interested in trying! My aunt has a long arm quilter, so she could probably do the finishing. Do you have to be a part of the Facebook group to join?

This would be so much fun! I need to move my sewing machine to the kitchen so I can actually make things without waking the baby.

I just need to learn how to sew...period.
Do you have any blogs or books to recommend?
This is something I would really be interested in doing in the future.

@HolisticMama: I really like Liesl's & Co. Patterns, they are like a sewing lesson as you make something.

So cool, thanks for posting! I want to join but I have to see if we can muster up the funds for supplies.

@Espion: you have to be in the group to be eligible to win but not to subscribe to the blog or follow along!
@avivoca: wait did you change your name!
@HolisticMama: do you have a machine? I think just picking a project to start with and watching a few YouTube videos is best! A lot of books are too detailed and overwhelming IMO. I am happy to help you get started too, though I'm no expert. I think a hands on class is best above all else.
@LittleGBee: I'm going to just do a mug rug with scraps

@scg00387: That would require scraps of...something. I REALLY want to learn how to quilt, but I've been so overwhelmed with where to start. So this is perfect.

@LittleGBee: free cycle is a great place to ask for scraps!! Or there are always scrap boxes on etsy no need to make it an expensive project

@scg00387: Do you think it's better to start by hand or by machine?

What a fun idea! I'm not quite ready to do one now (between my very beginner skills and DD being pretty new), but I'd love to so one in the future.
@HolisticMama: I started sewing (with a machine) using this "Sewing 101" series of blog posts I found: http://www.raechelmyers.com/sewing-101/ I started going through the series and found it helpful and easy to digest! I stopped because I got distracted when I got pregnant, but I hope to get back into it when I have more time. Maybe it will help you get started?

Good luck ladies! My new year's resolution for 2010 was to make a quilt. I stitched together about 4-5 pieces of fabric (by hand if that gets me any extra points) and that was as far as I got. Oops! I had a kid instead though. But I really want to do this, just not right now. Hope to hear how it goes for you all!!

Oh, this would be fun! I think I'll follow along but not join the group, since we're in the process of moving. I've made a few quilts, but would still consider myself a very beginner

I would, but I have about 5 other quilts I want to do/need to finish and am severely lacking a sewing space at the moment.

@HolisticMama: by machine!! i suck at hand sewing. modern machines are pretty awesome.
@rawrasaur: I want to see your quilts in progress!

I think I may do it! DH is going to be busy this weekend, so I'll take E to the fabric store and look around. I'll probably have to get one of those cutting mats and rotary cutters, because I would go wild trying to cut everything out by hand.
@HolisticMama: Sewing by hand is crazy talk.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@Espion: I use my olfa cutter and mat for everything! Joann's has an app for coupons and Hancock fabrics takes competitors coupons

@Espion: @avivoca: @LittleGBee: did you end up joining in? I have mine cut but hoping to sew tonight, so I'm behind!

@scg00387: I'm not doing the log cabin blocks. Like nearly every foolhardy endeavor I have ever embarked on, I'm making it up. I've got fabric cut and I'm slowly getting it together whenever I have the chance to sit at my machine!
We'll have to update with pics when we get a little farther along!

@scg00387: I didn't join in, but it inspired me to start working on my Swoon quilt. I'm so close to being done, but I put it aside when I moved two years ago (ahem) and then got sidetracked by my FIL's quilt and H's quilt. Oh, and I started sewing an Everyday Skirt from Liesl & Co.

@scg00387: I just want you to know, I blame you. This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't started this.
(Please don't look at the "edges" and "points". After, literally, the second seam, I completely gave up on lining anything up. And I'm a happier person for it, lol!)
