I can't believe the show is ending, although I definitely hit my boredom wall with them a while back. I just caught up on the last two episodes on PBS.
What do you think so far?

Yes! Just caught up on the last two episodes last week, haven't watched episode 3 yet.
So far so good, I'm interested to see how it goes.

I am! Love Mrs. Hughes and Carson getting married. I don't care about the hospital drama between Violet and Isabel, though, that's a snooze fest to me...

@travelgirl1: I just watched it last night as we were in the US for Christmas this year and had to DVR it. I cried my eyes out through the entire episode, although I think that was more to do with the show ending than anything specific! I'm going to miss that show so much....

@Ree723: I used to love watching it too. Mrs Pattmore has an accent like my DH

Yes! I think it's been really good so far. I get the feeling that they're setting it up so that Mary and Tom end up together...which would be kinda cute but a little weird. Or who knows maybe I'm totally off! I also hope Edith finds love as she's been so unlucky in that department.

I've watched the first two episodes of the 6th season. I'll miss everyone except Lady Mary.

@T.H.O.U.: I think I lost focus for a minute when it started, and at this point I just don't even really know what they're arguing about!
@lawbee11: Yes, Edith! I want Edith to be happy -- become the editor herself, get with that guy, and live in London happily ever after
Oh, I'm also concerned because at one point Lord Grantham looked ill, Carson asked what was wrong, and he said, "oh, nothing. Just indigestion." I was like, "that always means a heart attack is coming, when they make a big show of indigestion!"

@lawbee11: I thought that too about Mary/Tom last night. I somehow like the idea, but also, yes, odd.
Is it just me, or is Barrow looking kind of creepy this season? I'm also ready for Denker to get her due. She is awful.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@MrsSCB: Something about ownership. A hospital company from London or something wants to take over. Basically local control versus Additional resources from consolidating.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@lawbee11: don't get me wrong the show would be way less interesting without her, but my goodness she is so bossy and judgmental. I wish she would just leave her sister alone and the servants too!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@BlueWolverine: Denker really is awful.
I wonder who will be sent away with the cut backs at the house. Or maybe the season will end with the whole house being shut down (Edith moves to London).

@lawbee11: I actually wondered about Mary and Tom last season but then he left so I was like, well OK, maybe not. I think it would be a little too neat and tidy for them to get together so I hope they don't.
@MrsSCB: The hospital stuff is such a waste of valuable show time. So boring.

@T.H.O.U.: She was visiting my neighbours! We live about five minutes away from Highclere Castle - Lord Carnarvon (aka the real Lord Grantham) shops at the same grocery store I do. I wouldn't recognise him if I ran into him but my SIL has bumped into him there a number of times
pomelo / 5257 posts
@T.H.O.U.: my H thinks it's going to be shut down. That would be depressing, but I guess it's not like every other season has been a laugh a minute. And how fun for your sister! My ILs live in England and visited once. I was jealous!

I loved this Sunday's episode. I even started clapping at the end when Tom walked in.

@Miss Ariel: Right?? I love Tom!
I just hope Anna and Mr. Bates finally get some good luck and have that baby!
And I don't care about Edith AT ALL. She's such a selfish a-hole. I feel so bad that the Drewes have to leave their home because of her! ESPECIALLY when she could just take Marigold to that flat in London and not have to see the Drewes at Downton! Gahhh!!! That storyline makes me ragey!!

@Adira: Mrs. Drewe kidnapped her child. I do feel bad that they had to move away but I don't think it's solely Edith's fault.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@lawbee11: Agree I think Mrs. Drewe screwed herself when she pulled that stunt.
@Adira: Yes, can you imagine being a family in that day in age and having to move?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@lawbee11: @T.H.O.U.: Sure, I'm not saying what Mrs. Drewes did was right, but Edith stole her (Mrs. Drewes) child FIRST. Can you imagine raising a child for the first 12-18 months and then having this rich lady decide "Nope, I want her to come live with me instead, thanks for your help, bye!" I think if Mr. Drewes had told Mrs. Drewes from the get-go that Edith was the mom, things would've gone a lot more smoothly and maybe Mrs. Drewes wouldn't have allowed herself to become so attached. Marigold was a daughter to her - I can't imagine how hard that must have been to have let a rich spoiled lady just take her from me seemingly on a whim!

I'm watching and I love it! Sad that it's ending!
I do hope Edith finds love!! And so happy that Tom and Sybbie came back!

@MrsSCB: I thought he would have a heart attack for sure! I hope he doesn't.
@lawbee11: @travellingbee: I wondered the same thing about Mary and Tom last season! I am curious to see how it plays out now with Tom maybe taking back over the job Mary is doing?
@Adira: I was surprised to see a sort of infertility/RPL story line. It caught me off guard and made me super sad! I hope they get lucky.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Crystal: I was surprised too! Also, if they do get lucky, I'll be surprised at how (relatively) easy it was for both Lady Mary and Anna to "fix" the issues they've had, especially for the 1920s.

I really like this last season. I think the hospital plot is important from a historical context and again reinforces the movement towards the future where the “great houses” provide less and the “state” provides more. That said, meh to the time spent on that storyline. A little is fine, but too much is annoying.
I hope Edith finds happiness. I hope Mary feels like the ass she is for being such a dick 24/7 to everyone (especially Edith), but that will never happen!
grapefruit / 4800 posts
@Adira: Agree about Edith. She was so-so, kinda had good times but still a selfish brat but how they treated the Drewe family was horrible and Edith didn't even give her warning, just said BTW I'm her real mom and I'm taking her right this minute and then looked annoyed that she wanted to say goodbye.
Mary is a selfish brat too but she owns it and doesn't try to pretend others are evil and attacking her to get her way.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Oh wow, so much hate for the Edith/ Drewes situation. I think Mr. Drewes should have told his wife, but seriously Mrs. Drewes knew that child wasn't hers and came from somewhere. I don't think it's that far fetched for Mrs. Drewes to have put two and two together. Unmarried women back then regularly had to have their babies in secret and give them away. The fact Edith kept coming around in the beginning should have been a giveaway. Taking the child was so stupid. I don't like how the Granthams are so powerful that it forces The Drewes to leave, but I guess again sign of the times.
I can't wait to see Mrs. Hughes and Carson to get married- not at Downtown. Every time they show celebrations or large gatherings like the equestrian events I watch with bated breath to see if a glass or dish will break. We use paper and plastic all day these days, but back them they used real dishes.
@BlueWolverine: yes, Denker is another one that's just awful. I loved when the grandmother teased her about losing her job!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I may be mis-remembering, but I thought Mr. Drewes told Mrs. Drewes a lie about where Marigold came from so she thought the girl's whole family was dead or something. That would explain why it didn't even occur to her that Edith would be the mom. It sucks that this family was doing a good deed, taking in a baby who had no family or a mom that couldn't raise her, and now they are losing their livelihood and home because of that decision! <insert rage emoticon>

@Adira: He told her she was born to a relative of his and that the family died, so he was the only one about to take her. IDK, I think the whole thing was just wrong wrong wrong, everyone's behavior.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@Adira: I don't remember what he told her initially either, but now that you mention it Edith did hand over the baby to him at the train station. Then all of a sudden the rich woman kept coming over to their farm!
grapefruit / 4028 posts
@Adira: yep, me too. It's still not easy to fix fertility issues in 2016!
@ShootingStar: I agree, so much wrong with that.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ShootingStar: Thanks! Yeah, I don't know why Mr. Drewes didn't tell Mrs. Drewes once he knew the truth... I just felt bad for Mrs. Drewes throughout this whole storyline.
@Crystal: Right???
grapefruit / 4800 posts
And the story that Edith came up with is that the Drewes couldn't afford to keep her. For a mom who obviously was very attached to her daughter that must have been a huge slap in the face. Edith was basically like hi I'm taking away your kid and telling everyone I rescued you guys cause you couldn't handle this kid.

Oh, that scene with Robert in the dining room was horrible. I did get a kick out of DH's shocked and disgusted expression though. He is pretty squeamish.

@NCSUchick27: omg, my husband hates blood. I thought he was going to pass out, lol. It was like "zombie apocalypse comes to Downtown"!!
clementine / 995 posts
@MrsSCB: I know I was totally not expecting that on Downton Abbey. I am not a fan of blood or vomiting so I looked away once I realized what was happening. For some reason, DH just couldn't look away even though he hates blood.
