@NCSUchick27: yeah I paused it right after and we just kind of stared at each other for a bit in disbelief, haha.

Yeah, I was catching up on this thread right before bed (never opened this thread until last night) and started reading spoilers from the most recent. Of course, I had to get up immediately to watch the episode! Wow!

I won't give anymore spoilers away. I'll let someone else do that.

I will comment that I do like Edith, way better than Mary. I liked Sybil the best but I guess Edith is the lesser of two evil. She's not perfect but I do think she deserves to be happy and she's gotten the rough end of the stick.

I am so happy they brought Tom back. I was wondering what was going to happen to him. I know he left to go to the states right around the time the stock market crash and I was afraid something bad was going to happen to him while over there. Glad he is back home.

@Adira: @Crystal: I was 'happy' to see the infertility story line. Not that I'm happy that THEY have infertility. When they spoke of the cerclage, it is very surprising that they had that type of procedure back then. Amazing! When my cervix was shortening in my pregnancy, my OB suggested that procedure. I really hope it gives them the child they have been wishing for!

I looked over at DH during the dining hall scene and immediately covered LOs eyes. I think she must have seen something because she was quiet, let me hold my hand over her eyes and didn't ask nosy questions after. By the time I looked at DH in bed next to me he was on his phone and it was still going on. I said, Why aren't you watching?! He said, I can't stand the blood so I'm trying to distract myself!!

I agree Mary is mean to Edith but I still like her. I love Edith's facial expressions. I am looking forward to these last episodes because I expect loose ends tied up, happy endings and just due delivered.
I'm going to miss the Valentines Day episode.;(

We buy them through iTunes which distributes them early, so DH and I finished up the season last night. I was really sad it was over .

    Spoiler alert....

I'm really glad that they didn't make Robert's fate a cliffhanger. I suppose it's not 100 percent certain that he'll be ok, but at least he had the surgery and seems ok. I would have been pretty annoyed if they ended it at the dining room scene!

@Mrs tartan: did you get to go inside?? Does it look like it does on the show?

@Mrs Panda: oh, yeah, that would have been horrible if they made us wait.

@Mrs Panda: some bits do, it was nt nearly as grand as the show makes it look though, was quite run down. Still beautiful though.
Of course cameras are strictly forbidden inside

@Mrs Panda: which areas were you able to visit? I'm most interested in how the servants lived back then.

    I think @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: meant to tag @Mrs tartan:

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: all of the servants areas in the show are filmed in studios I'm afraid.
We had access to almost all of the house, the family who live there work 9-5 so it's open 10-4 each day and the staff tape off areas and sections each day for the visitors!

So have you guys caught up?

I think there are 2 episodes left! Why does it have to end!

@bluestriped bee: I was under the impression there's only one episode left?

  18. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@Adira: I think March 6th is the finale. Is there not one this Sunday 2/28?

  19. mfa_lady

    pomegranate / 3921 posts

@bluestriped bee: I think it's just the finale. There's some kind of behind-the-scenes special this coming weekend.

  20. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@bluestriped bee: Yeah, unfortunately, there's just the March 6th episode left and some behind the scenes episode next week like @mfa_lady: said.

I think Sunday's episode was the "season finale" and there's just the "Christmas Special" left to air.

@Adira: @mfa_lady: What? How are they going to wrap everything up?

@Adira: Oh, yeah, Christmas special. I've never watched it while it was on TV. I always binge watched it on demand. First season that I've watched it on TV.

  23. mfa_lady

    pomegranate / 3921 posts

@bluestriped bee: I know. SO SAD! I'm going to miss it, even though I think that with the exception of this past week's episode, the last couple of seasons have been kind of lame. Ha!

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@bluestriped bee: @mfa_lady: I can't believe I'm saying this, because I friggin' hate Edith for what she did to the Drewes, but I hope she gets her happy ending in the last episode!

@bluestriped bee: I saw a cast interview before t aired this season and the interviewer asked if everything will be wrapped up and "tom" basically said no. He said there will be some resolutions for some but not others because it's not true to life to have everything wrapped up.

I'm going to be so sad when this show ends.

    @Adira: I agree!

I know this is probably investing too much into fictional characters... but I can't help but wonder if George will survive WWII.

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Pickle: Oooh, I would love it if after the episode is over, they give a brief synopsis of what happens to all the characters (with happy endings for all of them, of course)!

  28. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@Adira: I like Edith so I'm a bit biased. Now for that b*tch Mary... Karma seems to skip over her.

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@bluestriped bee: Well, Matthew was killed, so maybe that balances things out?

  30. Mrs Panda

I was excited to see Tom come back, but now I'm wondering what the point of that was? Just to be this third party pushing Mary and Henry together? Why was he so adamant about that?

  31. mfa_lady

    pomegranate / 3921 posts

@Mrs Panda: I'm glad Tom came back because I don't know if I could have kept watching otherwise. Ha! He's my favorite. I like that he's the only one who (until Edith's outburst last week) who can stand up to Mary. And somehow he does it tenderly AND strongly at the same time.

I think he pushed hard for Henry because her reasons for not going for it were all fear-based. He really seems to want everybody to end up happy!

ETA: Wow, I look like some kind of Tom Branson stalker. Guess who my favorite character is?! Hahahaha.

  32. Mrs Panda

    apricot / 388 posts

@mfa_lady: I agree I like him too- I just wish they gave him more of a role than Mary's matchmaker after bringing him back!

  33. mfa_lady

    pomegranate / 3921 posts

@Mrs Panda: I get that. I do think they're using him to show how the family is softening/opening their minds a little. He helped them with that open house thing, he got Granny to come home to help Mary out, etc. He was pretty heavy-handed with the Henry thing, though.

  34. Mrs Panda

    @mfa_lady: true!

  35. Adira

So these are my hopes for the last episode:

    1. Anna and Bates have a healthy baby
    2. Edith gets her happy ending
    3. Isobel and Lord Merton work it out!

I've already seen all the episodes because we get them through itunes and they release them early. I won't give any spoilers except to say the series finale was excellent!

@Adira: Yeah, well, karma went too far there! RIP Matthew.

    @bluestriped bee: Seriously - I miss Matthew!
