Nope my husband and I both said when we got married we wanted two girls. He did say right before we found out the gender that he was thinking a boy would be easier down the road, teenage years, but he is thrilled we are having a girl.

My DH also wanted a girl this time (have a boy already). He said that his first son was such a Momma's boy, that he really wanted a Daddy's girl. However, we had a boy, do not plan on having any more, and now he's ok with it.

My DH was terrified of having a boy. He had a pretty traumatic childhood (including abuse).
We had a boy. Therapy helped.

Is there anything that happened with him growing up that is influencing his thoughts of having a girl? Even if you do have a boy, his issues about having a girl are something you might want to deal with now.

My husband does the usual male jokes of answering the door with a gun when she has her 1st date, but I don't think he's ever had any serious concerns. He was so excited to find out that we were having DD1 and he's equally excited about DD2. I think most people just love whatever they end up having even if it takes some time to get used to it. We can't pick and choose anyway!

My dh wanted 2 girls! We're having one of each though.

@bluestriped bee: Yeah I say that because one of my good friends was that player type and he says he is terrified of what other guys will do his daughter if he ever has one

haha, DH made a joke about how she'll never be allowed to date. But I pointed out some of the issues with having boys, too, and he came around.

@bluestriped bee: My DH would like to have a boy at some point (We plan on having more than one child). This is purely as he is a big sports fan/player and would like to be able to share those things with a son (as well as any daughters we have).

Your husband's attitude really grates on me. I was not some passive actor in my own sexual life. I enjoyed my sexual experiences and gained a lot from them. I have never felt exploited or abused by men. My parents helped raise me to navigate the complex world of love and sex, (I would argue just as complex for boys as girls..).

These kind of paternalistic attitudes get me down. Your daughter will have her own sexual desires, and shock horror she might act on them, just like a man would, just like any human would.

The only thing DH has mentioned about not having daughters is because he doesn't want to pay for a wedding, ha.

DH is super happy we had a girl even though everyone assumed he'd want a boy. Now that we have a girl I'm terrified of having a boy!!! I don't know how to be a mama to a little boy, my girl is so thoughtful and dainty and cautious. All her little boy friends are raucous and high energy and into everything.

My hubs doesn't seem to care one way or another. He mentioned that he would be nervous about a daughter (for some of the reasons mentioned and how he might not know how to relate) but we have away harder time picking boy names...

I'm actually really nervous about someday having a boy. I'm a girly girl and I don't really like "boy things" plus as a teacher I have to admit that almost all of my least favorite students have been boys..... Wow that sounded terrible!

My husband always said the idea of having a girl made him nervous because a girl wouldn't want to play outdoors and get dirty--I pointed out how ridiculous and old-fashioned that notion was about a million times and he seems to have gotten it out of his head!

@DigAPony: my husband may have thought that as well, an he is thankfully being proved very wrong.

I feel like your husband's outlook is pretty unkind to men and women. Maybe try to remind him that not all men are manipulative and out to use women and not all women need protecting from "big, bad men." We ladies can take care of ourselves! Personally, my experiences with men have been nothing but positive

I think my DH actually wants a girl! The only thing he is nervous about is me spending more money buying cute things like tutus and bows for a girl than I would spend if it were a boy....and that's a valid concern!

My husband was honest--he wanted a boy. He honestly would've had ten kids if that's what it took to get a son. He doesn't have anything against girls but he wanted to pass on our last name and he wanted his Junior. If we were having a girl, he'd be happy too, healthy and happy are his main concerns, but he definitely wanted at least one boy. He's getting his Junior and couldn't be more thrilled I love how he talks to my stomach now and how he calls our baby Junior and just gets the biggest grin on his face when he talks about our son. It's heart-warming. He realized yesterday that he becomes a Sr. when Jr. arrives and he giggled and grinned and was just SO excited.

I hope #2 is a girl though I don't want to be REALLY outnumbered!

DH has always said that he wants 4 kids and they all better be boys. Not sure if I would have called him a player in his younger years but he certainly wasn't a saint. I think if we had a daughter his biggest fears are sex & the brattitude. He said a boy can't get pregnant. I explained that the same things that happen to boys happen to girls (minus AF and PMS), they will both be faced with challenges that we faced as kids (and then some) & its up to us as parents to educate our children the best we can so they can make the right decisions.

He would be nervous as hell if we had a little girl but I think he would do great! Having my Goddaughter around has proven this fact to me. He goes from the king of the forest to a tiny little kitten when she is around.
