April Showers; it's raining BFP's! April POAS thread

@Adira: Based on your CM, the OPKs, and slightly rising temps, I actually think you may have O'ed on CD 19. Although definitely possible you O'ed on CD 20, with that sharper rise. So basically, I'm no help I'm not a charting expert

@Brawly: I'm in the same situation - I test at work and just have a cube, so I pee and test in the stall and then throw the cup away! And sometimes just throw the test away immediately too if I feel confident I know how it's going to turn out. Otherwise I smuggle it back to my cube to discretely check it out after the 5 minutes.

@MrsMccarthy: Oh. My. Gosh. That shirt is ADORABLE!! You'll get to use it someday regardless! I just looked at that keychain I bought DH the other day. I haven't looked at it since it arrived. Sorry you aren't feeling well.

@Brawly: I actually just walk back to my office with the stick. I'm not modest. I use a type of soft cup, as well. I just don't like the feeling of being messy. DH was actually the one that reminded me that I bought one last month and that I should use it during our fertile week. LOL.

@keepcalmcarrie: Exciting! What dpo are you?

AFM, My computer is being lame today and not letting my quote anyone (I had to copy and paste these).

    Boo. How is everyone?

@Brawly: I was really confused for a minute by that photo of your owl cups (which are so cute, BTW) - you were talking about soft cups in an earlier comment, which I haven't used but I know what they are, and then I saw that picture and thought "Wow, I've never seen soft cups like that before, and there are so many, how do those work?!"

    @HolisticMama: I don't temp or use OPKs so I'm not sure, but I THINK I'm 6 or 7DPO.

    Hi ladies!

Brand new to the boards here. I look forward to getting to know you all in time!

    Cycle day: 32

Cycle #: April will be my 1 year anniversary trying to conceive.

Ovulation & POAS dates: Ovulated Day 23. I've a short LP (8-10 average). I'm on day 9 now.

    Baby #: None yet.

Your game plan this month: Enjoy some sunshine if we're lucky enough to see some over here in London.

Chart link: My Ovulation Chart Looks a bit messy as I decided to stop temping this month and switched to using OPKs.

@theotherstark: Thanks for your input! I wasn't sure how long after you see a positive OPK you usually ovulate. My OPK was still pretty dark at 8:00 p.m. on CD 18, so I wasn't sure if it was likely that I ovulated on CD 19 or not. But I did have the same thought since there was a slight temp rise! Either way, hopefully I have my bases covered since we BD'd CD 18, 19, and 20. And hopefully we can do it tonight too, so I'll really have it all covered!

@RonniLeigh: Welcome! I hope your round out your year of trying with a BFP!

@Adira: I think it's something like 12-36 hours afterwards. And for the temps, I usually would have a slow rise after O, but I know some women's temps just shoot straight up, so it just depends on what's normal for you It sounds like you're well-covered, though, in terms of BD!! Keeping my fingers crossed that this is your cycle

Can someone please add me to the list of cheerleaders for the month?? I have a feeling April will be a good one

@RonniLeigh: Your kind of like me, I have a shorter LP as well, the TWW is never that bad for me... its the time up until O that kills me! Welcome!!!!

@Radish - Thanks so much! Me too. I'm trying to play it cool though.

@Adira - Do you happen to have any ovulation symptoms? I use OPKs (used to temp as well), but I can generally tell exactly when I'm ovulating as I'll get a really sharp cramp/pain localized to whichever side is working harder that month. It's almost like someone is poking me sharply in the abdomen. I got a positive OPK this month in the morning, but the pains started toward the evening. As Theotherstark said, I have heard that it can take up to 36 hours for you to ovulate after getting an LH surge. Fertility Friend (the tracking site I use) therefore automatically assumes the second day after you got a +OPK as your ovulation day.

@RonniLeigh: Are you on day 9 of your LP? Waiting to POAS? Or are you on day 9 of your cycle?

@Adira My + OPK was on Monday night.

@Brawly I LOVE your little owl cups! I have a husband who can't throw anything away so we have about a billion medicine measuring cups. I've peeing in them. I'm hoping if I pee in them DH will let me dispose of them. lol!

Thank you all so much for all the insight in this thread. This is the first time I've used OPKs and the feedback you've given me and others has been really helpful.

After some more googling this morning (I just CAN'T Stop!) I'm starting to feel less anxious about my temp not rising yet. I have a feeling I Oed today. I had more noticable cramping...and well...I thought I peed myself in the middle of a work assignment (man sometimes that CF can be a litt TOO obvious!)

Oddly enough, it appeared right after I spent time in a chapel and while hiding from a TV camera, said a little prayer that I might be able to figure out what on earth is going on with my body!

In a way I'm relieved, because if I had Oed earlier in the week and we did conceive, the baby would have been due about 6 days after my final exams. That's cutting it super close!

So I have a feeling I'm out for this month (I won't see DH again until Saturday because of my classes and his work). But I think I'll still check in with you guys just in case. I know there's still a chance that BDing Monday and Oing today could work out.

@Brawly: I used same method when TTC for #1 (wandfo to test and CBE to confirm). I just peed in the cup and dipped the stick never waited an hour. It worked fine.

@Brawly - Oh seriously! Getting to O takes AGES! Though I have quite a bit of spotting pre AF ( as early as 3 or 4 dpo I'll start spotting. It's apparently my normal.) so TWW always feels that much shorter for me.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I'm 9 dpo so far and waiting to test. I'm resisting the urge to even buy the tests until this weekend though, since I keep expecting AF at any moment.

  18. winniebee

@Adira: For me I always concluded I ovulated about 12 hours after the positive OPK. I got a positive OPK on the day I got intense ovulation cramps. The next day the OPK was negative and the cramping stopped and I would always get my period exactly 13 days after the positive OPK. As a general rule, it's supposed to be 12-36 hours after your first positive OPK

@RonniLeigh: O my gosh!!! I am sending bunches of sticky baby thoughts your way. Have you been temping? OPKing? Or do you just know your body and not worrying about the other stuff. I like OPK's I know they stress some people out but temping made me a nervous wreck for some reason.

  21. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

    Since @RonniLeigh also mentioned it...

do many people spot before they O?

It's happened to me the last two cycles, but they were my first two post MC so I know other odd things could be happening. I don't know if it happened in the past and I just didn't notice it or not?

But that was the start of the confusion for me this month. When CF showed up, it was dark in color. And I had that daily for about 4 days before the positive OPK (so close to a week before actual O if I in fact did O today)

Anyone have experience with this? I do have a follow up with my OBGYN in April so I plan to have him look over my charts with me to make sure everything is happening as it should, but if others have insight to make me feel more normal I'd love it!

Crap, I need to learn to read closer. @RonniLeigh said pre AF.

    But anyway...anyone have pre-O spotting?

K guys, give me your opinions puhleeze!

    http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/regular-lube-and-cm#post-1522578

It's not a *huge* deal if I'm correct on my prediction that I screwed myself and will O later, again, but I want to make sure that it's really a no-no so that I can pass it on to DH.

  24. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

I don't think lube would affect your O date...regular lube can sometimes be hostile toward sperm though.

As far as it affecting your mucous, I'm not sure? But mucous or no mucous, I think if you're going to O, you're going to O. even if you took all the mucous out you'd still do it, it would just be harder for the sperm to meet the egg.

  25. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@MaryM: what you said. @HellOnHeels: drink, some green tea and maybe take some mucinex to help the CM along?

  26. Anya

@MaryM: this cycle I had spotting O-2. No idea if it was related though, I don't remember that happening before.

  27. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@anyajenkins: Yeah. I can remember spotting once or twice in the past, but having it daily for 5 days seemed super odd to me. And it wasn't even like "spotting"...it was just globs of dark colored CM.

I talked to my mom about it (she's a nurse) and she said probably no to worry about it unless I got a fever (if it was an infection), so I guess I just need to remember to print out my charts for my next visit.

I feel like my body is such a major mystery lately!

@MaryM: @winniebee: I hope you're right. I swear, the exact same thing happened a couple months ago and according to everything my body told me, save for OPK's, I didn't O til CD23 and had a regular LP. Hopefully it was a total coincidence/fluke. Will pick up some mucinex after work and check if I have green tea.

@Brawly: awww cute cups. It's good to have cute ttc accoutrements when you have particularly tough days.

@HolisticMama: thank you sweetie! I KNOW you will get to use your keychain too. I hope we both have a fruitful spring!

Quick question for those trying Mucinex. I just googled it and there is the liquid form or the tablets... Which is better? I'm guessing the liquid?

  31. MaryM

@Mrs.Lilac: I've never used it for TTC (only sickness), but the tablets are giant and taste disgusting. I never realized there was a liquid!

Eta: @MaryM is right though--they taste funky!

  34. HeartAbandoned

    clementine / 933 posts

@Mrs.Lilac: I take the regular tablets (generic from Target), and the kind with just guaifenesin, not the kind that also has a "plus cough" ingredient. Not sure if the extra ingredient is harmful while TTC, but I prefer to err on the "less is more" side. I started using mucinex early this cycle (maybe around CD14...and I'm current CD40 - anovulatory PCOS), and I had my first ever EWCM on CD34. I didn't O, based on OPKs, but I credit the Mucinex for the EWCM. Maybe just a fluke, but I'll keep using it! My doctor said to start on CD10 and continue until BFP or AF. @MaryM: is right, though - the tablets are big and hard to choke down. I think they do that to encourage you to drink more water. The guaifenesin doesn't work unless you drink lots of water, too.

@MrsMccarthy: Looking at old posts and I saw you do fertility yoga after O. Do you have any reliable resources I could check out on this subject? I'm very interested in that this cycle. I jog and do HIIT work outs weekly but have been kind of missing yoga and feel I could be a little easier on my mama body the week of O. So if you have any websites/books I could check out I would be super appreciative.

    @theotherstark: Thank you!!

@RonniLeigh: I don't normally have any ovulation symptoms (unless frequent urination is a symptom, because I had that in spades yesterday, haha)!

@MaryM: So my + OPK was Sunday and I didn't see a temp rise until today, so you might see your temp rise tomorrow! Also, a lot of people have had success with just BDing on O-2, so you're not out yet! Also, I've never had pre-O spotting.

@winniebee: Do you count the 12 hours from the LAST positive? I took 3 tests on Sunday and I'd say all three were positive (though the last two were even MORE positive than the first), so I'm not sure where I would start counting from, you know?

By the way, I have to say, thank you to everyone that suggested OPKs! So far I really like them! I feel like seeing a + OPK has really helped our BDing because it seems like less "work" to BD multiple days in a row when we feel like they are going to be efficient, rather than going EOD and having nooooooo idea if our timing was going to be good or not!

Of course, now my hopes are going to be soooooooo high so if AF shows up, I'm going to be so depressed!
