Today at playgroup, my daughter (15 months) got pushed around a bit by another girl who is a bit older than her (it wasn't a big deal; my daughter was definitely annoying her!) The mom immediately stepped in to tell her daughter that this behavior wasn't okay.

What I thought was interesting was that several times in that short conversation with her child, she insisted that my LO was her child's "friend" and that we don't hit or push our "friends". I 100% see where she was going with this, but it made me think...our kids have played together at school maybe 4 times, max. And to be quite frank, they seem to antagonize each other more than they play nicely together. I definitely wouldn't call her my child's "friend" - if anything, I'd say the girl doesn't really like my daughter!

The point of my long-winded story - Do you tell your child that everyone is their friend, or do you use the term more carefully?
