My family, friends and even one annoying stranger at Target have all yanked my LO's thumb out her mouth and lectured me about downsides of thumb sucking. It drives me crazy...

Oh my gosh! That's horrible. My LO sucks her thumb but thankfully no one has ever lectured me. You must have been livid.
I think the only comments I get are from people who were thumbsuckers. I had no idea how many people sucked their thumb until my LO started, and suddenly everyone has a story about their childhood. What they've all told me is that nothing ever worked to get them to stop. They all just stopped when they were ready. So I decided not to stress about it. Tell those people lecturing you to suck it! By "it" I mean their thumb, of course

That's crazy! DD have never sucked her thumb and only used the paci for sleeping at home so people have never been able to comment.

Wow, how do you react when a stranger yanks your lo's thumb out? First of all that would make my lo scream, which would also make me scream. Why are people so crazy?
People usually think its adorable when lo starts sucking her thumb.

@autumnlove: did your lo cry? If you take lo's thumb away from her she cries. And usually when people make a baby cry they feel bad about it. At least they should.

One plus about living in a place with a bunch of overly-reserved locals is that I don't have to worry about this kind of stuff. But I did see MIL take LO's hand out of her mouth today ... not sure if that will continue though and she (thankfully) hasn't commented.
Reading all these crazy stranger stories has me bracing for our next trip home. I will be ready for rude strangers and sooooo plan to have a come-back if and when it happens to me
