I heard some hospitals provide a sterilized receiving blanket to wrap the baby when he/she is born so for those of you who bought receiving blankets did you find them to be useful? I'm just not sure if I need them or not

We took home about 5 of those pink and blue stripe blankets from the hospital. We also received about a dozen receiving blankets as gifts.
I forget exactly what brand, but I think they're Gerber? Really colorful and flannel material blankets were on the small side and we didn't use them for long. I put them on the floor when we gave LO her baths and would also use them to line my suitcase when we went on trips. -
They're good for putting on your couch when you lay your kidlet on it, in case they drool or spit up. I also used them rolled up as a support for DS, but not as a covering or a swaddle.

We only ever used them as burp cloths. They were too small to be otherwise useful.

We used them a lot when she was a newborn, and still use them now. Just not as often.

i don't think you need to buy them. just use your swaddle blankets (which are bigger) or bring some home from the hospital.

The only blankets we found useful were the ones big enough to swaddle LO in. But we use them here and there for various things but not as much.

I didn't find them all that useful and I could never make a strong enough swaddle with blankets of any size. I used sleep sacks instead for that.
I did bring a nice one to the hospital and was glad I had it only because we did the hospital newborn photo shoot and the blanket looked nice in the photos.

We used some to cover our changing table (over the pad cover). We also used them to lay over her while sleeping when she was itty bitty. Other than that we used the larger muslin Aden and Anais every day and still now at 6 months.

I didn't think I needed them but they have been really handy... I use them for lining the changing pad cover, rolling them up to support LO's head when I breast feed in a lying down position, drool cloths, etc.

I used them a lot at first while breastfeeding & still usually have one in my diaper bag just in case. I can use it as blanket, birth cloth, rag, nursing cover, etc so it's great to have on hand. I used 2 at a time to swaddle her when she was tiny but quickly switched to Aden & Anais for that.
