In Alberta we recently had a rash of adult drownings in various areas- one of DH's bosses drowned jumping into the water from some sort of platform two weeks ago! I can't say that I've heard much in the way of children drowning so far this year, just a lot of grown men making bad decisions

Not many people have private pools here because the community pools are awesome and there are a number of private clubs that a lot of people belong to as well. That being said, we live on a large lake with a strong current and have the aforementioned pools, almost all of the parks have easy lake access too. In the three years I have lived here there hasn't been a drowning and I have never even heard one mentioned (with the exception of a suicide.)

People here start water safety as soon as a kid can sit up and swimming lessons really early and I have not met a kid here yet that can't swim better than me by the age of 4.

I'm in FL too so theres a lot here. I plan on starting teaching LO to swim as an infant, like I was.
I never remember a time when I wasnt able to swim.

I having been keeping count but have heard of a few drownings this summer.. but not of infants, mostly teenagers and adults. still very sad.
