Play doh. DH hates it, so we don't buy it. She got a small pack as a gift and i let her play with it. Immediately she got some on the floor and her sister and the dog tried to eat it.

Never sand of any kind, indoors.

Agree, no sand or "sensory" bins in the house.

We also sold our play kitchen because their favorite activity was dumping it out

Ones that make noise I don't like.

Not really - I am game for pretty much anything

DH on the other hand hates messy stuff - so when he is watching the kids they cant use play-doh, kinetic sand, or paint

Toy guns are a no-no in my house. Water pistols are fine as long as they are colourful and don't look like real guns but, seriously, pretending to kill people isn't a game I allow.

Messy and noisy toys are fine by me, even though I though them!

I really try to avoid anything with commercial characters, anything that is an ugly plastic monstrosity, and anything that makes an annoying noise.

We live in an apartment, so the play area is part of the living room. I don't want to stare at a bunch of ugly stuff! And I don't like supporting commercial characters with my money. I am pretty anti-Disney, etc. (I think I would be ok with Sesame Street if I was confronted with it.) But my son is only 20mo, so I'm sure eventually he will get exposed to some of that stuff and ask for it. He already knows Thomas the Tank Engine even though we only have one book and a few trains.

We have Playdoh and an indoor kinetic sand box, but we only take them out when we can supervise him. He knows that the sand has to stay in the box, and the Playdoh has to stay on the table, and he is pretty good about respecting those rules.

We also have a radio flyer bumper car which makes cartoon-style noises when it bumps into furniture. I actually find that one kind of amusing and have no issue with it. It's especially funny when one of the cats moves it.

Toy computers (or real iPad type stuff). I don't have anything against them in general, and they work for some kids. But I come from a family that's obsessed with them and it's really pathetic. They basically live in comfy armchairs pushing buttons, and very few things make them get up and go. I hope that if I keep technology away from the kids long enough for them to develop other interests, that'll protect them from going down that path.

Guns or anything violent hunting/police/military related.

No guns.

And that push popper toy that's been around since we were kids. C likes playing with it at other houses but it's so freaking loud. Not in my house.

Huge toys. I really despise giant toys because we have no space for them.

At least early on, we won't allow toys that are passive. As in, all she has to do is push a button and it'll light up and make noise and essentially entertain her instead of her learning to entertain herself. But anything that requires her to actively play, we'll go for, even toy drums or cymbals or other "noise toys" that most parents hate. And I love kinetic sand, so I'm pretty much getting some "for her" as soon as I can justify it.

Play Dough. Hell to the No.

Guns. Pretty much everything else is okay.

I can't think of much, the loud ones drive me crazy but we allow them and then just have them disappear for a while. My kids love play doh and sand!

I have found bubbles to be a disaster because she is so obsessed with them. Even when we play with them outside it is such a mess and stressful because she wants to do it herself. So they aren't banned but I've stopped buying them!
