Smokey the cat very rarely goes in the kids' bedrooms, and I've never ever seen her in the main bathroom. It's a bit strange, because she definitely went into the bathroom in our own apartment from time to time!

@mrbee: they are just so scared of her. Even if she's not crying. I feel like I'm neglecting them because I'm attached to her 24/7 and they are not. Hopefully it gets better

All of mine consider every inch of the house their territory. And my cat is *obsessed* with bathrooms, because she likes us to turn the water on for her to drink in the sink, so it's interesting that yours avoids it.

he won't go upstairs alone.
he won't go downstairs unless he hears something interesting, like my ILs dog outside or my ILs in the backyard.

Nope, they own the joint. Our one cat is particularly obsessed with our master bath because we always keep the big pack of extra toilet paper there on the floor and eating the plastic from the pack is like crack to him.

They generally stay out of DS' s room but if he's in there they go in and visit with him a bit. They all seem to love book time at bedtime though lol.

We had a dog growing-up who was scared of hardwood floors - so weird! He would only go places he could visit via "carpet jumping"
My dogs are like @Mae 's now - they own the joint. I woke-up this morning crammed into a corner of the bed with my husband and looked over and our greyhound/ german shep was sprawled out.

He's afraid of the guest bathroom upstairs, but that's because we make him take baths in there, so he's got PTSD from that room!

no, they're too curious for that! both our dogs always want to be exploring everything. our older dog usually follows us around pretty closely, but the younger one likes to find random quiet places to nap. she's also particularly fearless/determined about exploring--she likes to nose open closed doors

My cat avoids counters (except our spare bathroom one where his food is) & the dog avoids anywhere near our shower stall. lol

Well they WANT to go everywhere but they aren't allowed in the bedrooms...I like to keep those areas fur free and my 2 big boxers don't get that our beds are not theirs!

In our old apartment, my (first) dog would never go into our bathroom. She might have been traumatized when we tried to give her a bath when we first got her. She doesn't like baths, so I have to take her to a local pet washing place to give her baths. It actually cuts down on the hair that goes everywhere, if we do it at home.
In our new place, both dogs will go into both bathrooms. Our oldest dog, hasn't been traumatized yet and won't ever get a bath in our house because of her history. Our second dog is small enough and actually enjoys getting a bath. Our two dogs can be so different.
