We aren't on the same page. He is on Team Honda Pilot and I want an Odyssey.

We just got our car last year so we're both on the same page that it'll be awhile before we even think about another one
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Pretty much. I get a small sedan as a work perk and he is not allowed to drive it. So the family car has to be something he can drive. For road trips I rather he drive because he's an annoying backseat driver. The family car will be his really so I am fine with a pick up truck.
grapefruit / 4923 posts
i think so. we want a subaru outback or crosstrek.
@autumnlove: what do you guys like about each?
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
We were definitely on the same page when we got our current car! We were both on team SUV with 3rd row that still had decent storage when the 3rd row was in use. We both fell in love wtih the Mazda cx-9 and luckily were able to finagle so we could afford it.
We're both on the same page with only wanting one car. The only thing we're not on the same page about is I'm open to a minivan and he's not. But we can't afford one anyway so it's moot!
coconut / 8305 posts
Yep!
I would each make a list on why you want the specific car you want & see if there are places you can compromise or even a completely different vehicle that meets everything y'all want.

@edelweiss: I think the Odyssey will be easier for the LOs to get in and out of and it will be more comfortable for family to ride in. DH likes the Pilot because it isn't a mini van!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
We're on the same page in that we don't want a mini van! When we bought our current car, we were surprisingly on the same page and we both love it.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
We bought my car in 2009 with the mindset that it would be our family car. It's a Mazda CX-7 and we both like it. I just wish the gas mileage was better. I kind of want a Prius V.
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
DH is a total car flopper and changes his mind pretty much weekly on what our next car will be, and that is 2(!) years from now. Some days, he's getting a big truck. Some days its a van, some days he's getting a luxury sedan and my Rogue will remain the family car (which I'm sure it easily could). Sigh. I just let him stew on it forever and eventually he'll make a sales pitch that I'll fall for.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
We recently got an Odyssey and love it. We were both in full agreement. I'm pretty sure our next will also be an Odyssey.
clementine / 995 posts
We both want a Subaru Forester, but it will be a while before we buy one. We are trying to wait until one of our current cars die before we buy a new one.
We don't have any kids yet, but our next purchase will definitely be a family car. We will be TTC in a little over a year.

We don't have a LO yet but DH wants to keep his Impala SS and buy a truck for his next car. I really would prefer to use his Impala as a trade in. We'll see if we can afford to buy a house, child care expenses and afford 3 cars. I doubt it but I can allow him dream about keeping his Impala in the future for now. After we buy a house and have some kids, I hope his priorities change.
I have a new CRV so I should be good for a while. Unless we have triplets or 3 kids in the next couple years.

We are on the same page in that we are both unsure!!
We drive a lot back to our home town with the dogs, and our big dog takes up the whole back seat.. aka no room for baby! We are thinking something with a 3rd row, but are torn between giving up my car (its paid off) or getting rid of DHs truck.
I want to keep the truck and get a new SUV. We both agree with no van ever.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
We both never wanted a mini van so we were easily on the same page for a small SUV. We got the CRV recently. We just got a sedan too for better gas mileage so we're set for cars for at least a decade I hope.

If you guys are having 3, mini van is the way to go!
We're gonna get an SUV in a few years!
eggplant / 11408 posts
We both know we want a small hatchback with decent trunk space/place for the dog when there are two car seats. Right now, the current preference is a Mazda 3, though we're open to other ideas! Has to be good in the snow, though!
honeydew / 7488 posts
@autumnlove: Tell your DH he will get over the fact that it's a mini van once he operates the sliding doors, haha. Says the proud owner of an Odyssey
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
We just got me a SUV last year so we are on the same page on waiting for a long time. He just bought a commuter car, but says he wants another truck....I'm not on board with this! So hopefully we can put this off. I don't think he needs a truck, if anythign we get a nice car for him to drive (he commutes) and if he needs AWD then he takes my SUV and I take the car.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Yes and no! We both want him to get a Tacoma next, but I want it a lot sooner than he does! Right now he has a Ranger that has all of two seats.... Not exactly practical for our family. He wants to drive it til the wheels fall off...we'll see about that!
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@autumnlove: i just saw a commercial for the new Odyssey and it has a built in vacuum!! That'd be my selling point
We are kind of, but still disagree on a few things. I want to sell my Explorer (paid off) and buy a used Infiniti QX56. He agrees with the Infiniti but he wants to trade the Explorer in, I don't.
Then I want to sell our diesel Excursion (still paying on) and get a King Cab Chevy Duramax so that he can have a truck and we can get a camper. He's on the fence about selling the Excursion. I finaly confessed that I can't stand driving it because it's so freaking hard to park!
Plus he still gets to keep his Jeep and old Ford, he's a vehicle hoarder

According to DH we're looking at trading my SUV for a minivan ... I refuse to make the switch until it becomes necessary (meaning my SUV dies or I get knocked up with #4).
I am indifferent to new cars - the ones we have work just fine.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@T-Mom: Our friends were mini van haters but they got an Odyssey before their 3rd LO was born and they love it!!
honeydew / 7303 posts
@autumnlove: We are because the next family car is my pick! We both want an SUV though. We aren't sure what kind. It will be a while before we pull the trigger finance wise, but we really need one NOW!
pear / 1664 posts
Yep each of us gets whatever car we want. Bingo, problem solved. I figure if I'm driving it, I pick it, and vice-versa.
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@LazyLightning: I wish we could do the same! We have different schedules so we both use the car with good gas mileage when we work and the other person gets the "family" car!
pear / 1664 posts
@autumnlove: I suppose with just having the 1 baby almost any car can be a 'family car' so we have that going for us!!
pineapple / 12234 posts
We weren't for a long time. He wanted a truck to do fun family things with (camping, towing a boat, towing a camper, etc.). I really wanted a mom car (an SUV) that had a third row seat + room for strollers.
We ended up having his truck for a year and trading it in for an SUV after he realized we aren't towing a ton with two very young children.
nectarine / 2163 posts
the next car will be my car, and I want an SUV. I'm pretty sure DH agrees with me, but he still likes to push my buttons and send me links to minivans because he knows I refuse to be a minivan driver!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Nope! He wants a 4 door Jeep Wrangler and I want an SUV. We will probably compromise on a Jeep Cherokee
honeydew / 7667 posts
We just got new so we are on the same page that we won't be getting new for a long time.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
I have an SUV (Volvo) but we differ on what to get next. I wouldn't mind the minivan for space and good gas but he'd rather get a big SUV.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@prettylizy: girl, I feel for you. My husband is car shopping for his new car. It won't be a family car, but it will need to be able to hold two car seats (so it eliminates a two door, and that's it). He's changed his mind so many times I've lost track, and now he's negotiating prices on a model he swore he didn't want.
Mind. Blown.
honeydew / 7917 posts
I want a station wagon version of my current car, and DH wants a SUV like the Acura RDX.
bananas / 9628 posts
We each buy what we want (within reason!). As long as it's safe and could fit a carseat, I don't care what he buys. I think I'll have my Pacifica for a few more years, depending on where we're at kid wise- i'll either get another SUV or a minivan. I want to hate them, but the sliding doors in the carpool drop off lane would rock my world! Hahaha. He doesn't car at all what I buy.
clementine / 901 posts
Yes! We want a new Mazda cx-5 but will probably end up buying a used SUV since we can't justify the price of a brand new car.
